What are the things we are supposed to do when we explore caves? Generally, managers or cave rangers prepare in advance the interesting activities in their tours. They set different packages for tourists of different preferences. However for 'speleologists' or cave scientists, they do exploration not only for pleasure, but their goal is mainly for research, to contribute to science.
Given that you have prepared and brought the essential things in your expedition, what are the next things to do? Activities also depend on the purpose of the caver. Hence, advanced preparation will help your exploration in an organized manner.
If you are a scientist, and your purpose is mainly for research, your activities inside the cave would depend on the planned procedures or methodology. Maybe you are interested of rock sampling? Or maybe you're studying different formations in the cave? Some researchers would be interested in cave surveying or inventory, cave mapping, wildlife conservation as well as conservation of the cave itself.
For cave enthusiasts who visit caves for pleasure, what do you expect? Usually, tours are already prepared for you. You just have to follow your tour guide's instructions and enjoy. However, activities vary with different caves. It depends on the structure of the cave as well with the added features it offers.
Exploration of caves is dangerous. It is recommended that cavers should always go in groups. Groups should also join an expert caver so as to ensure their safety. They should always bring a first aid kit. Before departure, it is suggested that they leave a word of mouth to someone not included in the trip about their whereabouts so that in case of emergency, there will be someone who can help them in case of trouble. Communication is very important in such dangerous activities like this.
Caving promotes outdoor recreation, fitness and health, camaraderie as well as environment conservation. The pleasure and adventure derived therein inflicts an increasing demand for establishing more and more activities in caving. This is to cater cave enthusiasts more productive things to do as they learn and enjoy throughout their trip inside the cave. But, there is but one warning for cavers out there, you can do all the necessary things you want to do in a cave, --take pictures, view bats, birds, explore rock formations and many more. Just don't disturb and jeopardize its natural structure and all the other creatures living there.
If the child, adolescent, or teenager is embarrassed about wearing the diapers and plastic pants to bed there are a number of different ways you can encourage them.
First, you can stress how much more comfortable it will be waking up in a dry bed.
Second, you can have them go to different chat rooms and online forums(with a younger child it's a good idea to supervise them while they are doing this) so they can talk to people in similar circumstances. There are many online forums and chat rooms dealing with bed-wetting and other incontinence issues. Sometimes it helps to have a sympathetic ear and to realize there are other people in the same boat.
third, you should tell them that there are a large number of adults that wet the bed and many of them also wear night diapers. I would let the child know that many adult bed-wetters probably feel a bit self-conscious wearing diapers to bed also, but they understand that ultimately it's in their best interest to wear them. I've also read about cases where one or more parents have bed-wetting problems but their children don't. The parent might originally feel embarrassed about wearing diapers to bed(especially if their children are out of diapers) but many times the children are understanding and supportive of their parents. You can also mention that there are plenty of cases of adults who purchase diapers for other adults. An example of this is when a person buys diapers for their parent or parents that have medical problems that require them. For instance many people are caregivers for parents( or other relatives) that suffer from Alzheimer's disease. Incontinence is one of the symptoms of this disorder and the person has to purchase diapers for the individual who has Alzheimer's disease. Another example is if a married couple deals with bed-wetting. In this case the spouse of the bed-wetter encourages them to wear diapers to bed. Although they might feel embarrassed at the prospect of wearing diapers, they realize it's for their own good in addition to being considerate of the person sharing the bed with them. These are points that should be brought up to the older child, adolescent,or teenager that needs to wear overnight diapers but are reluctant to wear them.
A fourth strategy that you might want to consider is this. If your budget permits I would order a large or extra large, adult size pair of plastic pants and/or diapers. By showing the youngster an actual adult size pair of plastic pants or diapers in a a size that is larger than what they would normally wear, it might help them feel better about wearing diapers to bed. By actually seeing an adult size it reinforces the fact that adults wear them to bed also. This will help them more psychologically as opposed to just seeing something on a web site.
Fifth, you can explain to them that people have different needs in terms of managing their incontinence-that's why they have so many different styles of incontinence garments. There are different levels of incontinence-some wet more than others. You need to stress to the youngster that what works for one person might not be as effective for another. Also people can even experience the same types of incontinence differently. For example, some bed-wetters sleep on their sides and might experience problems with urine leakage in this area. With that in mind it would make sense to purchase a certain brand or style of diaper specifically designed to address this particular issue. Sixth, emphasize to the child or teen that they are only wearing the diapers at night. Unlike during the day it is much easier to conceal the use of diapers at night.
Another suggestion I have for helping an older child, adolescent,or teen adjust to the prospect of wearing nighttime diapers is to have the youngster see a mental health professional such as a child psychologist. Many psychologists have experience dealing with this issue and might be able to provide therapy specifically designed to help them deal with the emotional effects of the bed-wetting such as the feelings of shame they experience. If you have the financial means to try this option it would be worthwhile to consider this. You can talk to the mental health professional beforehand to see if they are able to offer counseling in this area. I talk about this in greater detail in my article "Bed-Wetting:When Cures Can Be Worse than the Disease."
Some people feel it's okay if an older child or teenager doesn't want to wear diapers to bed provided they take care of the wet sheets, clothing, and blankets. This brings me to another strategy for motivating an older child or teenager to sleep in diapers at night. I would tell them that it's much more time consuming washing bedding and clothing. By being aware of all the work involved in washing wet bedding and clothing it might make them more willing to wear diapers at night.
Another idea I have for helping parents encourage their older child or teenager to wear diapers for bed-wetting is to let them know that it's not healthy for their skin to sleep in urine soaked clothing and bedding. Urine can have detrimental effects on the skin. I talk about these effects in my article "Bed-Wetting and Maintaining Appropriate Hygiene. " I encourage both parents and children to read this article. I feel that this will help immensely in getting both children and teenagers to see the merits of wearing diapers for bed-wetting.
The last idea I have is to implement a reward system designed to encourage the child or teen to wear diapers to bed. You can offer to increase their allowance by a certain amount. You could also say that if they agree to wear the diapers to bed for at least 6 months they can earn a certain amount of money per month such as $20.00(or whatever amount the parents can afford and are willing to pay them). If they don't wear the diapers and plastic pants to bed you can deduct a dollar for each night they don't wear them. In addition to having a specific amount they can earn per month, if financially feasible it might be a good idea to purchase a present for them which you can give them after the 6 month trial period. Or they can earn a specified number of gold stars or points per month which they can cash in for presents. Again they will be deducted a gold star or point each night they did not wear the diapers to bed.
I think that verbal praise is an important part of the reward system. There is always the possibility that some older children and teens might get discouraged and not put on the diapers some nights. If this is the case it's very important to encourage them. Remind them of how proud you are for trying them out and also remind them of the reward system. I would say something along these lines: "We're real proud of you for trying the diapers and plastic pants out. I realize that it's no fun wearing them but just keep in mind the advantages of wearing them-you'll wake up nice and dry. Also remember that the more nights you wear them to bed the more money you'll make. I know it's hard but try to hang in there."
It's my contention that in order to motivate them to wear the diapers to bed for the long term it's important to have some small rewards they can earn along the way while waiting for the big reward at the end. In my opinion, after the 6 months is up they'll feel so accustomed to wearing them and so comfortable wearing them, that they will want to wear the diapers to bed of their own volition and not need rewards anymore. After that period of time they'll most likely realize how comfortable it is to wake up nice and dry. At this point many parents are probably asking the following question- "Suppose we try this reward system for 6 months and they're still resistant about wearing the diapers to bed?" This is a judgment call but in this situation the parents can say the following to the youngster: "So you still don't feel comfortable with the idea of wearing diapers at night.? We understand that it's difficult getting used to them but just remember what we told you-plenty of adults wear them also. There are millions of people all over the world of all age groups who have to wear diapers for various reasons. Some of them have to wear them during the day and night and some have to wear them only at night. There are also many types and levels of incontinence and some products are more effective at managing certain forms of incontinence. That's why there are so many different types and brands of diapers available. We appreciate you trying these out. How would you feel about wearing them to bed for a few more months? We thought it might be a good idea if you continue to wear them for another 3 to 6 months. An important thing to keep in mind is that even with adults it can take them a while to get used to wearing the diapers." There is no guarantee that this will work but it's worth a try. A second thing the parents might be wondering about is the following-suppose the child gets used to the diapers but pretends they haven't to see if the parents might be willing to extend the reward system? While many people might say this is being somewhat cynical, the possibility of this occurring(at least with some children) should be considered. I'm not a parent but I do work with children in the school system so I know that kids can be manipulative. I think that in a situation such as this the parent has to make a judgment based on what they know about the personality and temperament of the child and their previous actions in different situations. In this case the parents intuition should serve as a fairly reliable guide. A third possibility is that the rewards might eventually become a crutch. The parents need to make it clear to the child upfront that the purpose of the reward system is to encourage them to wear the diapers to bed, to help them adjust to putting on the protection every night, and to get them to understand that even though they might be a little embarrassed about wearing diapers, it's more embarrassing sleeping in wet sheets and clothing(not to mention more uncomfortable). The child needs to accept the fact that this is not a permanent solution .After a suitable period of time the parents have to wean the child off the reward system and this can vary with different children.
In combination with using a reward system there are certain scripts(as the mental health professionals say) that an older child, adolescent, teen, or adult can say to themselves in order to feel more comfortable with the idea of wearing diapers and plastic pants to bed. For example he or she could say something like this to themselves: "This is just a garment designed to absorb urine and prevent it from getting myself and my bed wet. Wearing this is no reflection on my maturity. In fact by taking the appropriate precautions in dealing with the situation I am acting more mature. It doesn't matter what most people think. I am doing what's best for me in my particular situation and circumstances" or "I'm just wearing these at night-no one but myself and my family know I have them on. I'm asleep while I have them on so it's not like I'm going to notice them much anyway except when I put them on at night and take them off in the morning. It's like having a tooth pulled under anesthesia-I won't even notice it."
Another thing a person could say is the following: "Everyone's body develops at different rates-some people are potty trained later than others and some wet the bed later than others. My bladder has just not developed enough where I can stay dry at night unlike during the day. I wore diapers during both the day and night to protect me when I was a baby so why should it be any different now-I still have the problem of wetting. Just because I'm older doesn't mean I still don't need them. Besides, they make diapers and plastic pants in my size so there must be a need for them-I am not the only one who wears them for bed-wetting."
If the child is younger you can tell them to play a little game. You can tell them to imagine that the diapers and plastic pants are a like dam and the bed is like a city. The dam(in this case the diapers and plastic pants) keeps the city(in this case the bed) from being flooded. Or they can pretend they're a superhero and the diapers and plastic pants give them special powers-in this case the power to prevent their bed from getting wet. Finally they can look at the diapers and plastic pants in the same way as a raincoat.
Another tactic that a parent might want to try is to mention to the older child or teenager that many celebrities dealt with bed-wetting when they were younger. As mentioned in my article "Reasons for the Stigma Surrounding Diaper Use With Older Children,Adolescents, and Teenagers that Wet the Bed and Ways to Reduce this Stigma" there are many famous people who experienced this problem when they were younger. Among the famous individuals that suffered with this problem growing up were Johnny Carson,Suzanne Somers,Michael Landon,Mark McGwire,Vince Vaughn, and Sarah Silverman. In fact Sarah Silverman's recent book "The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage,Redemption, and Pee" recounts her experiences dealing with this problem when she was younger. Sarah dealt with this problem until she was 16.Sarah mentioned that she had to wear diapers to bed for a while. In one part of the book she talks about going on a camping trip when she was 12 and how her mother prepared Sarah for the trip by putting Pampers in the sleeping bag so she could be discreet about the issue.
Right now I'd like to talk about one other factor that should be considered about approaching your youngster about wearing diapers to bed. In some cases the child or teen might be closer to one parent and as a result they feel more comfortable discussing personal matters with them. In a situation such as this, both parents should get together with each other before talking to the child to make sure they're on the same page in terms of the best way to approach the youngster about wearing protection. When you've both mapped out the best strategy and the parent is ready to talk to the child, I would say something along these lines: "We realize you might feel embarrassed about your bed-wetting. We just want you to know that there's nothing to be ashamed of. People of all ages(including many adults) have this problem also. Both your father(or mother depending on who is talking to the child)and I came up with a plan to help you manage the problem. We both came up with a reward system designed to encourage and motivate you to try wearing diapers to bed for a while. I'd like to talk to you about it now." In my opinion it's a good idea to stress to the youngster that both of you decided that it would be best for the child or teen to wear diapers to bed so he or she doesn't think it's some arbitrary decision. I think in general it might make a youngster feel better if both parents are in agreement because it shows the youth that there was more thought put into the decision, which in turn will most likely make he or she feel more comfortable with the idea of wearing diapers to bed.
The following section talks about how bed-wetting and diaper use can effect teenagers. Teenagers can be particularly sensitive about this issue. This section talks about one teenager's feelings regarding wearing pin-on diapers and plastic pants to bed. When reading about the teen's difficulties I was struck by how poignant it was and how sad it is that other children and teenagers feel the same way. The teen feels that certain aspects of the diapers make him feel like a baby. The pins, the bulk of the diapers between the legs, and the sound of the plastic as he moved around were triggers in his mind that made him feel this way. As mentioned, many older children and teens probably feel the same way but instead of viewing these aspects in a negative light it is conceivable to put a positive spin on the situation-instead of seeing the glass as half empty with the right attitude one can see the glass as half full. For instance the bulk of the diapers can be looked at as an advantage-it provides more absorbency and therefore better protection. Regarding a teen's embarrassment about the rustling of the plastic pants as they move around, it's important to remember that since the diapers are worn only at night this shouldn't be a concern. The parents should let him or her know that it's not unusual for a certain degree of noise to be associated with some diapers. Instead of viewing the plastic pants in a negative way,the person can view them in a positive light-they make the diapers waterproof which keeps the user dry and comfortable. If however the bed wetter shares a room with a sibling and is concerned that the sibling will notice the crinkling sound the diapers and plastic pants make when he or she moves around in bed, that concern can be addressed beforehand by the parents. As far as the safety pins are concerned, these should be viewed no differently than other tools for fastening clothes such as snaps, buttons,or zippers. My article "Teens and Bed-Wetting:Dealing With Diapers and Plastic Pants" talks about this issue in greater depth. If you have a teenager who is reluctant to wear diapers for bed-wetting I encourage you to have them read this article.
There are people with bed-wetting problems who buy disposable briefs to manage their bed-wetting. Disposable briefs are the term used for disposable diapers for older children, adolescents, teenagers, and adults. They have the same fit, style, and design as baby diapers. Disposable diapers can make a crinkling sound when the user moves around which makes some people feel self-conscious about wearing these types of garments. This generally happens with disposable briefs with a plastic outer cover, although it can also happen to a certain extent with some brands of disposable briefs with a cloth like outer layer. The same strategies designed to make a person feel more comfortable with the idea of wearing pin-on diapers covered with plastic pants can also be used with disposable briefs. Again the parents can tell the child or teenager that the tapes should be looked at the same way as other methods for fastening clothing such as zippers, buttons, or snaps. As far as the rustling sound the plastic makes, it should be mentioned that since the diapers are worn only at night this shouldn't be a concern. Finally, the parents need to point out that the plastic is an important part of the diapers because it makes the diapers waterproof. This in turn provides more comfort and security for the person wearing the diapers. At this point I'd like to mention that there are instances of bed-wetters using both pin-on cloth diapers covered with plastic pants and disposable briefs to manage their bed-wetting. For instance, there are cases of people who alternate using both types of diapers. On some nights they wear the pin-on diapers and plastic pants and on other nights they wear the disposable diapers. Also there are cases of people who find the cloth diapers and plastic pants too hot to wear during the summer months and switch to disposable diapers during this time. The reason for mentioning this is that it's good for people to consider different options for managing bed-wetting. It's not at all uncommon for people to use both reusable and disposable diapers. By being open to experimenting with different styles and brands of diapers, it makes it more likely you'll find the best type of diapers(or combination of diapers) to manage your youngster's bed-wetting. Also there are parents who use both pin-on diapers covered by plastic pants and disposable diapers for their babies so it might be a good idea to consider the possibility of trying this combination out to see what works best for you. I emphasize this point in many of my articles discussing the different types and brands of plastic pants, cloth diapers, and disposable diapers available to manage bed-wetting with older children, adolescents, teenagers, and adults.
I strongly feel that it's a good idea to combine the methods discussed in this article. By doing this, you're more likely to have success in motivating your youngster to wear the diapers at night. How you do this will have to be tailored to the individual needs of the child-everyone is different and some of the ideas discussed in this article will have different rates of success with different individuals, but I believe that with the right methods(and combination of methods) and persistence, you'll have luck with even the most stubborn and resistant youngster.
If you haven't decided what type or brand of diapers you want to buy for your older child, adolescent,or teenager please see my article "Choosing the Right Diaper for Older Children,Adolescents, and Teenagers with Bed-Wetting Problems." This article talks about both cloth diapers and disposable diapers. Other articles you might want to read are "Information Regarding Pin-On Diapers for Older Children,Adolescents, and Teenagers with Bed-Wetting Problems" and "Brands of Plastic Pants for Older Children,Adolescents, and Teenagers with Bed-Wetting Problems." One of the reasons some older children might be anxious about wearing diapers at night is that they might believe that their parents are going to diaper them before they go to bed. I think it's important that parents talk to their child about this and let them know that they're going to be responsible for putting on their own protection. After deciding what type of diapers to purchase for your bed-wetter I encourage you to read my article "Older Children, Bed-Wetting,and Self Diapering." This article talks about why I feel it's important to let an older child be responsible for putting on their own diapers.
Whatever you do it's important to not get frustrated or discouraged if the youngster is having difficulty adjusting to wearing the diapers to bed. This will not happen overnight but with the right amount of support and encouragement they will eventually get used to putting them on. With many medical issues it can take some effort getting used to the particular treatment. For instance when a person gets glasses or braces it feels a little awkward and unnatural at first but the individual gets used to them over time. As I mentioned before I would remind the youngster that plenty of adults also wear diapers for their bed-wetting and although they might be embarrassed by having to put them on before going to bed they realize it's for their own good.

Before heading off on the trails of the Great Smoky Mountains, be sure you have all you need. In addition to a hiking buddy and people at home who know where you are and what your plans are, you need to carefully pack for the trip. While there are lots of things that it is very important to remember, these are the five items that you cannot hike without, regardless of your hiking experience. Load them up, and go safely!
1. Proper hiking boots
Without hiking boots well suited to your feet and hiking style, you risk ruining your entire trip. If you are doing just short, day hikes without a backpack, lighter weight shoes are acceptable. These are typically made from fabric and split-grain leather, breathe well and offer the least amount of support of all the hiking boots available. If you are planning on hiking with a backpack for a couple days or less, consider stiffer, mid-weight boots. These are the most versatile, and can definitely make a shorter hike easier than the lightweight boots. If you are planning to hike with a heavy pack or for a long period of time, get the heavyweight boot with the most support. Keep waterproofing and insulation in mind no matter what kind of boot you are considering.
2. Water
While rather obvious, there is nothing more important for your health on a hiking trip than water. No matter what kind of hike you are planning, your body needs water the entire time. Staying hydrated will ensure that you stay comfortable and healthy, and (with food) you will be able to complete your planned route. Think carefully about how much water you need to bring with you as it relates to your body, the terrain and the length of your hike. It is advisable to consult a doctor or outdoor expert on this.
3. First Aid Kit
No matter what anyone says, do not go on a hike without one of these. You need to at least have bandages, aspirin, antiseptic, an antihistamine, sunblock, insect repellent, gauze, iodine tablets, and duct tape. Consult with a wilderness expert or doctor before your trip to make sure you have everything you need and are prepared to handle any number of crises.
4. Rain gear/jacket
All year round, don’t forget a jacket. While it may be warm when you set out on your hike, after dark it can get cold. If it rains, you will want protection. Depending on your hiking plans, you may only need a plastic emergency poncho, although this provides little to no warmth. Bringing a jacket, even just a shell or waterproof windbreaker, is a great idea for any hiker or anyone heading out into the woods.
5. Backpack
You’ll need something to carry everything you need, won’t you? Even if you aren’t planning on taking a hike longer than a few hours, you’ll be taking at least water, first aid gear and a jacket, so a small bag will work fine, preferably waterproof. If you are taking a longer hike, consult with the salespeople at your local outdoor gear store as to how much stuff you will be taking with and the best way to pack it. Stick to internal frame backpacks—modern technology ensures that these new frames direct the weight at your hips, where you should carry most of it.
Never go into the wild unprepared. You cannot predict the future, nor can you be sure of what you will come across, no matter how much planning you do. Start with this essential items and expand to ensure that you have the best and safest trip possible.

this is the absurd truth about women and men. Women associate the success of relationships with all aspects - physical, emotional and even psychological. However, men seem to be more talented in departmentalizing these three aspects. A guy can be purely physical, without the mental and emotional aspects. It is very rare, that a guy becomes emotionally and psychologically attached without the need for the physical factor. this can be a challenge for women who are in search for the complete package. So what is a girl to do when a guy seems to be "emotionally unavailable"?
First, know how to spot an emotionally unavailable man
Are you reading the signs right, or have you just been reading too many self-help books? An emotionally unavailable man is someone who feels the constant need to be with someone, but he cannot commit to anyone in particular. He's always seen with somebody, but that somebody isn't necessarily the same person he was with yesterday. An emotionally unavailable man is reluctant to give contact details, because he doesn't like being reached. Nor does he reveal too much about himself. Although he is capable of showing interest, he also may be extremely inclined or addicted to something, like gadgets, sports, work, and even promiscuity, that he will be unable to consistently show affection for one person. He likes physical intimacy, but for him, there is absolutely no emotion associated with sex.
Do not avoid the predicament. Deal with it.
Here's your chance to set someone's world right. If you do meet an interesting guy who catches your heart, but he is emotionally unavailable, you still have every chance of winning him over. But telling yourself "he's not worth the effort" when you haven't tried anything yet is worse than having tried and failed.
Know your worth.
Ladies, when you meet an emotionally unavailable man, never downplay your worth just to satisfy him. It's called tough love, but you will have to teach him how to appreciate every piece of you, the right way. Beg to differ from all the other women who come and go. After you've noticed how he would call only when he wants some sack action, and not even ask about your day, it's time you changed the rules. Two things can happen here - he could start to miss you, or he could simply look for attention elsewhere. If he does the latter, let it be. You haven't lost anything. If he does the former, continue the lesson.
Keep your distance.
Here's the truth about emotionally unavailable men. They crave for attention and affection. If you start avoiding him, and focus on other people and worthy activities, he will start to feel that huge void in his life, and may attempt to make amends.
Do not fall for the sweet talking.
And when he does try to make amends, an emotionally unavailable man will exhaust his powers to try and please you. But, if you fall for his sweetness the first time he tries it, he will consider it as a learned behavior ("I do this, and she responds with that.") Pretty soon, you will notice a pattern, and you will want to hit yourself in the head for falling for his pretences.
Do not give him fake ultimatums.
"If you don't come home this instant, I'm not going to here when you arrive!" may seem like a reason for him to rush home, but if you've used this line endless times in the past, forget about it working. To set an emotionally unavailable man straight, you need to mean what you say. It's the only way he will learn about credibility.
Take the easy way out.
An emotionally unavailable man is like a disease. He spreads negativity and hopelessness in a relationship. A mistake that women make when dealing with these types of men is settling, or giving way too many chances on the assumption that they will eventually change. Who's to say they won't? But you wouldn't want to be on the losing edge. They may change, but that doesn't mean you're the person they will choose to be with in the end. Take the easy way out and leave the relationship while you can. You've given him all the right signals and he hasn't picked up. You cannot force a man who isn't ready or available to commit.

An electric blanket is an especially valuable commodity on those cold winter nights when you just can't seem to take the chill off. Just plug that they be in and wrap it around you, instant gratification. When you are sitting in a recliner with your feet up and your toes are like ice cubes, you can drape the electric blanket across those raw tootsies can get them toasted up in no time. If you are a camper and use a generator, just plug in that electric blanket and you can keep warm all night. The one thing in common in all of these scenarios is that using electricity to warm a blanket can provide you with a wonderful sense of comfort.
But of course because the power to heat the blanket is electric you must take to caution while using it. When buying an electric blanket do not rely on anyone else’s findings from research. To your own homework before making the purchase and remember to keep in mind these important facts, how you will be using it and its safety ratings. As with any electric devise fires can happen.
Of course too much hate can also cause the skin to burn. Putting a sheet or light weight blanket between you and the electric blanket could give you the best results and prevent prolonged exposure. It may not be completely necessary, but it certainly wouldn't hurt.
If you intend to use it at night when sleeping make sure your research includes that information. Keep in mind that many experts advise against having your electric blanket plugged in while you are sleeping. A good alternative is to place it next to your sheet for a few moments before bed and then unplug it. The warmth from the blanket will be retained and you will feel comfy and cozy.
Here are a few other safety concerns to keep in mind. When warming your feet or legs wear socks and pants or use a lightweight throw between you and the electric blanket to prevent any kind of burns from prolonged exposure. Although the blankets have been safety tested by the manufacturer it never hurts to be cautious.
They can be especially comforting when you or a loved one are not feeling up to par. They can rant you in a cocoon of warmth that will help take those feverish chills away.
From the old man trying to keep warm sitting in his evening chair, to the couple snuggling together on a camping trip, the electric blanket can be a great investment. Sometimes you just need a little extra heat when your bones start to feel a chill and an electric blanket is ideal for that task. Just remember to research any and all products that can potentially harm you.
Once you have decided to welcome a cat into your home, to be a member of your family, the next questions is where to get the cat from? Should you purchase a cat from a breeder? A pet store? (A reputable breeder is a much better and much safer choice than a pet store) Or maybe you should adopt a cat from a shelter, or from another facility.
If you are interested in showing your cat, buying a purebred cat may seem like the only option, but in fact the major cat organizations such as ACFA also have a household category where you can show off your pretty kitty regardless of origins.
There are different advantages to getting your cat from either a shelter or a breeder. Breeders will give you a guarantee and the kitten will come with a wellness check by a veterinarian. You may be restricted in showing, and most certainly breeding. Getting a cat from the shelter assures that cats has been screened for some diseases and you will also most likely get a history about the cat.
Some people are really attracted to certain breeds which have the looks they like and are more likely to display a breed characteristic temperament. For some, this is the only way they would consider getting a cat. Bringing a cat into your family is a long term affair. Getting a nice match with the cats personality is important.
Adopting a cat does not reduce the possibilities of getting the kind of cat you are wanting. All kinds of cats in just about all breeds are available for adoption. A plus to adopting a cat that has had a previous owner is that they are already litter box trained, and it is easier to get a feel for their personality when they are past the kitten stage.
Some cats at shelters come with a full history, such as if they deal well with young children or with other pets. There is also a great feeling that can come with adopting a cat since some cats that are never adopted wind up euthanized by the shelter. There simply isn't always enough room for all the cats in the shelter, so sometimes there is no other choice. By adopting a cat, you're saving the cat's life.
There are many other ways to adopt a cat than shelters. Your local newspaper will have many ads about cats looking for a loving family. The reason someone has to give their cat away is many. Allergies is a common one, as is change in living conditions, the death of the cats owner, a divorce etc.
The advantage of adopting a cat from another family is that there usually isn't any charge involved unless the cat is a purebred with documentation. The disadvantage is that unless you take the cat to a veterinarian beforehand, you can't ever be quite sure if the cat has some underlying health issues that may wind up costing you quite a bit of money.
Some struggle with the decision of whether to rescue a cat at the shelter, or to purchase one from a breeder. Rest assured that once you do decide to get a cat, one will find you. Cats are just like that. You can start your search, investigating your options, and before you know it "your" cat will appear.
Every home is prone to fire accidents. It's not because of how it is built or what kind of materials it was made of. It is about living in a home where most of the elements of fire exist. Flame, oxygen and combustible materials are all what it takes to start a crazy fire. And these three things are very vital for human living. If one these gets out of hand, the lives of the person living in that home can be endangered and all of your handwork can go down the drain easily. Hence, every homeowner shouldn't take chances. In managing a home, fire precaution should also be practiced.
Are you interested to know the different precautions? Below are some of them:
1. Install fire alarms in various rooms of your house. Buy those who have dual power source (one that can be operated with battery when your main power gets cut off). If you have them already, make sure they are always in working condition. Change the batteries from time to time that way they will always function just as when you expect them to.
2. Install fire extinguishers at home. You can buy the portable ones. Make sure they are also multi-rated so that you can fight fire safely.
3. Use electrical devices with caution. Even if the manufacturer claims it is the safest device, you still have to be careful about it. One tip is to shut off the device when no one is using it. Another one is to avoid plugging too much appliance in one socket. You should avoid doing this when using extension wires.
If you happen to own portable heaters, keep them away from the wall. Any electronic devices should be used with precaution especially when used near with sinks. Hence, it is smart not to put sockets near faucets or sinks or even tubs. And lastly, electrical cords that are fried should be changed before using. Do not even attempt to continue using a device if you have seen sparks coming out from it or if it emits a burnt smell.
4. Never leave the kitchen when cooking. If you must (at times when you have to answer the phone), make sure you set the gas range to low heat. Should you use grillers, keep them away from branches or dried leaves.
Do not hang potholders, cloth or aprons near the burner. You should also avoid wearing loose clothes to avoid catching flames.
5. Watch your kids and keep away lighters and matches from their reach. If someone wants to smoke, advise him or her to do it outdoors and put out the cigar using the ashtray. Do not allow them to throw the cigarette anywhere as the smoldering fire could also start up flames.
Fire safety is not difficult to achieve. You can save your family from a devastating event, as simple as observing these 5 precautions. Try it on you home and greatly reduce the probability of fire from happening.
Vendor booths are one of the things to think about if you are going to start selling your goods at fairs and festivals. You must organize and sort what items you need on a regular basis and what items will make your life easier when you are in situ. One of the main concerns you will have is how to make sure the public knows you are there and knows what you are selling.
One of the first things you need to check out when registering for a fair or festival is the vendor booths. Will the organizers provide the booths, or will you need to provide all your own equipment? Other considerations to take into account are whether the event is indoors or outdoors, how much space has been allotted to you and where the allotted space is.
Some of the big, well-organized regular fairs or festivals that take place indoors often have ready-made booths of certain sizes that you pay a set fee for. They may also give you the option, included in the price, of a large display board over your booth with your name or company name advertised. The booths will probably be solid structures and may or may not include access to electricity.
If you have an allocated space against a wall, you may have room for shelving. Corner booths usually cost more money, as obviously the two exposed sides give you a better exposure and the public better access to you. Well-organized fairs and festivals outside will probably provide vendor booths that resemble open-sided tents, giving you and your customers shelter from the elements.
Some smaller fairs and festivals may provide only a table and chairs, and some may not provide anything at all. This is why it is essential you find out beforehand so that you will be prepared. At these events, you will be allocated a measured floor area, which you must not exceed. Do not forget that other stall vendors have also paid their money for their space and you cannot steal this space from them.
Just in case nothing is provided, any stall vendor must ensure that they own some lightweight folding tables for displaying their goods. Aluminum camping tables with carry handles are the best and easiest to transport. It is best to have a number of smaller ones instead of one large one as you can then change the shape of your table layout to fit your space. A couple of folding camping chairs are also useful.
If you are doing a lot of fairs and festivals outdoors and want to look more professional as well as being more comfortable, you should invest in especially designed, easy to erect shelters. These can be bought online either plain or made-to-order with your name, logo, etc.
As you can see, there are many things to consider when you are planning vendor booths. The easiest and simplest booth is the one with a table displaying your goods for sale. The more advanced and professional looking ones are the walk-in kind, like a mini shop, where you will need more display areas or structures. All fairs and festivals are different, so you need to be prepared for all contingencies.
I have an 8-year-old friend. She's a lively third-grader who has a strong sense of self. One evening I was babysitting her and she shared a list of odd-sounding names. "Back Stand," "Over-Under Flip," "The Round About-er," "Twist, Un-twist,” “Upside-down Split."
"Gymnastics," she explained. "I made up some cool moves."
I was already curious so I was happy when she offered to demonstrate. The "Over-Under Flip" turned out to be more of what most people would consider a flop.
The "Upside-down Split" had her jumping up and down, twirling around and making a run for the couch. She plopped on the couch, on her back, and lifted her legs in the air, splitting them apart, and waving them around. (Then she fell off the couch, but she assured me that was not part of the move.)
Cool moves, indeed.
My grown-up mind recognized that each of her moves was merely a failed attempt at some other real gymnastic move.
My creative mind jumped for joy at her way of turning a challenge into a personal, unique success.
She could not perform a cartwheel, flip, head stand, or split so she adapted them to suit her abilities. Suddenly, she was a success. In fact, it's safe to say that she is the best Over-Under Flipper around!
When we put our writing dreams into motion, we are often given specific rules to follow, steps to take and books to read in order to make it big. In fact, we are also often handed someone else's definition of making it big.
We could follow someone else's map to success.
Or we can look at where we are and what we are interested in, and build our own "cool moves" as food writers. My best friends flip through Bon Appetit for inspiration to create their own magnificent dishes. I look through farmer's markets and my pantry to uncover exciting, fresh recipes. Good news! We're all correct in our approach.
Early on in my food writing, I ran into someone who told me that there were only five food magazines available for food writers, and nothing else mattered. On the other hand, I've seen food writers start with a free newsletter and turn their weekly recipe offerings into a cookbook. Others write for sites, weekly newspapers, online syndicators and ezines to build up both a following and published clips. Still others write articles about food for camping, leisure, parenting, regional, and travel magazines.
My 8-year-old friend's philosophy helped me refocus for the new year. Instead of focusing on a few markets for food writers and comparing my work with others' successes, I plan to return to writing culinary mystery shorts, personal essays (always about food) and working on my cookbook. These are the "Over-Under Flippers" that fill me with joy.
Now it's your turn.
What would you do if you didn't feel you had to compare your performance with anyone else's?
