How To Make Your Own Baby Food

Those little containers of baby food sure are expensive once you start totaling up how much you use in a day. Now you are probably wondering how you could possibly save money on baby food (besides those $.25 coupons). Well, you can’t save money on those little containers, but you can on baby food itself. How? Make it yourself! It’s really not as hard as you think. Do a search on the internet for “homemade baby food” and you’ll find tons of recipes on how to make just about anything perfect for your little one.

Let me tell you how easy it can be to make your own baby food. Yes, it takes a bit of time, but knowing that you’re giving your baby the best food for him (uh huh, better than the baby food you buy in the store) and saving some money at the same time it is all worth it! So, here we goÂ…

The best thing to do is to buy fresh fruits and veggies, but the next best is frozen. Canned foods usually have too much sodium or preservatives in them. Before we begin, there are very important rules to follow when you’re cooking the foods on your own, but you’ll learn those from specific recipe requirements. Besides bananas and melons, most foods need to be cooked or steamed first. Steaming is the best choice for preparing your baby food. You’ll need to steam the foods until they are nice and soft which can bary anywhere from 15-25 minutes. Once they are done, they are placed into a blender to be pureed (some foods will need to be peeled before they are pureed). When they’ve been pureed, you will either use fresh water or the water left over from being steamed to mix with the pureed food to make it thinner for the baby to eat. Once you have the food ready, it is poured into ice cube trays (which are easiest) and then frozen. When the cubes are completely frozen they can be stored in zip lock bags until they are ready to be served.

Also note that there are specific cooking rules for all the foods, so be sure to follow all recipes thoroughly. Try making some baby food yourself. If you don’t want to do it solely, try just preparing some homemade fruits or desserts for your little one.

Children and Sports: Is it Really Such a Wise Idea?

Some parents hem and haw when their children start getting a little older and express an interest in sports activities, especially if those sports are impact sports of any nature. After all, even T-ball can mean some pretty mean lumps on the head and soccer some bad twisted ankles. So is it really such a wise idea for such young kids to be out there straining their bodies when they haven't even fully developed yet?

The short and long answer is yes. Exercise is a very natural and essential part of a child's growth, and the more they get when they are young (within reason) the more healthy they will be as they age. Your kids should be getting an hour of exercise every single day in order to be healthy. And not only that but setting the bar at a young age often equals a lifetime of smart living habits.

Sports is not just about just passing time. There are substantial benefits.

The fitness benefits are quite obvious. Too many American children are sitting around the house, watching movies, playing videos games, and eating junk food. Look at all the sitting that goes into the modern existence. They kids sit there on the couch all day at home. Then they sit in your car to go from place to place. And then even at school they spend the vast majority of their time in a chair.

Is it any wonder they are out of shape?

But sports gets them up and moving, and that's what they need. They strengthen their bodies, become more flexible, and work their cardiovascular system.

But the benefits owed to sports is not just physical. A lot of character development is going on as well. Kids learn to set goals and work towards their achievement. They learn to develop healthy living habits and principles, shying away from unhealthy habits their peers pick up as they mature. Work ethics, discipline, and responsibility become a norm.

They also develop more confidence in themselves, due to both the healthy release of hormones from physical health and because they are achieving small goals in their lives. Some will take on their sport as a lifelong passion. And these days, with depression and, unfortunately, suicide a growing epidemic among our young, self esteem can make all the difference in the world.

Finally, with all these great benefits of playing sports, there is a lot of social and emotional growth going on as well. Your child gets a chance to develop sound leadership skills and learns to work with others. They are surrounded by friends who have similar healthy habits, and they begin to foster relationships with healthy adults who can provide a positive role model.

The relationships they establish with these adults ease their social development on the way to adulthood and give them a common ground that minimizes the "us" vs. "them" attitude some children develop as they become teens. While our culture often accepts this attitude as normal behavior, if it goes too far it can lead down dark paths.

So, as you can see, the argument for getting your children involved in sports at a young age is extremely compelling. Are there small risks involved? Sure, there are, and I'd point out that there are even some pretty dangerous risks involved in any active situation—as insignificant as those risks might be. But that's part of living, and the life that accepts a small part of risk for a huge variety of benefits and opportunities is the life worth living.

Bass Fishing Pro Tips

In this article I will reveal some bass fishing pro secrets. I'll tell you about one bass fishing technique that will make bass literally attack your lure! I'll reveal why the taste and texture of your bait makes a difference, and I'll tell you what color lures to use depending on the prevailing weather conditions.

First let's look at how to choose the best color lure. Knowing how to choose the right bass fishing lure will increase your catch dramatically! There are three main variables to consider when choosing your lure: light, water, and what the bass happen to be eating for supper on that particular day.

The amount of light and quality of light will depend on the time of day and the prevailing weather conditions. On cloudy and grey days, lean toward a brighter color lure like chartreuse. On clear sunny days, a white color lure is often a good choice. Surprisingly, as light becomes more scarce, darker color lures seem to work best. Some bass fishing pros recommend using black or grape colored lures as nightfall approaches.

You must also factor in water visibility when choosing the color of your bass fishing lure. And in case you didn't know, bass have excellent eyesight! According to Bill Dance, "A bass' eye receives five times more light than the human eye and can see forty feet in clear water. In murky water, they can see up to seventeen feet. In muddy water, they can see five to seven feet."

If the water is dark or murky, bright and shiny or flourescent colors will be your best choice to attract attention. When the water is downright muddy like chocolate milk, then flashy, bulky, and noisy baits are your best bet. If the water is clear, you will want to choose natural colored lures that imitate the food found in the bass environment.

Try to determine what the bass are eating and factor that into your choice of bait. Bass eat sunfish, minnows, shiners, bluegill, crayfish, frogs, and insects. But you could add a lot more things to the list. Large bass have been known to eat baby ducklings, rats, and blackbirds. Your shiny and silver or yellow lures will imitate minnows and sunfish. Your greens and browns resemble crayfish and frogs. If you can determine what the bass are biting on, you will always be more successful.

Equally important to the choice of color is the smell, taste, and feel of your bait. According to Bill Dance, "Bass can smell eight times better than a dog."

A lot of fisherman fail to take into account the smells that rub off their hands onto their bait. Your hands must be free of the smell of any petroleum products like gasoline, suntan oil, or sunscreen. Insect repellent, nicotine, and the natural oils produced by your skin alert bass that there's a predator in the vicinity. These man made scents will literally scare away a wary bass. Conversely, coating your bait with a powerful scent like cod liver oil or other fish attractant can make a big difference in the size of your catch.

If you're a smoker, just remember that when you're bass fishing, you have got to clean your hands before handling your bait or lure. Bass fishing expert Russ Bassdozer recommends, "Just keep a bar of Ivory soap on the boat. It is 99.44% pure, no added perfumes, and it floats if you drop it." The smell of soap, of course, is not exactly a plus either, so you should use some kind of fish attractant to mask or neutralize the negative smells that adhere to your hands.

As for the taste and feel of your bait or lure, it's important to understand how a bass eats its prey. When chasing a fish, an agressive bass will inhale its prey with its large cavernous jaws. But once inside its mouth, the bass will taste and feel whatever it is it chomped on, and only then will it decide to swallow. If a bass detects a hunk of metal, it will likely spit it out. That's why you will often have more success with a lure or bait that is gummy or otherwise imitates the feel of something natural like a fish or frog.

Still another good reason for using a fish attractant is that once the bass has your lure in it's mouth, "the scent and taste of the attractant will cause the fish to hold the lure in its mouth longer," says Russ Bassdozer, "rather than taste an unadulterated DEET, PVC plastic and L-Serine cocktail and spit it out." This will allow you a couple extra seconds to detect the bass on the end of your line and to set the hook.

OK, I saved the best for last.

Here's a bass fishing technique that will provoke a bass to attack your lure ferociously! As you know, bass see in color, and some colors are more effective than others depending on various factors. But when a bass sees a bit of red on your lure, it really drives a bass crazy. That's because a little red on your lure looks to the bass like the blood of injured prey! It's not surprising that pro bass fishermen will often attach something red to their bait that resembles blood. Adding a sploch of red can double the effectiveness of your lure.

Affordable Vacation Ideas for Families

In the best of times, it can be difficult for families to budget the funds to get away for a time of rest and relaxation, but that task proves to be even harder in today's economic conditions. Thankfully, it's not impossible. The following list of travel tips provides affordable vacation ideas for families who want to escape the rat race this year and enjoy a little time away together without breaking the bank.

Take a Stay-Cation

It used to be that family vacations meant packing Mom and Dad and the kids into the family station wagon or boarding a plane for a long cross country trek, but with the challenging economic times of the past few years, families are finding plenty of opportunities to get away within a day's drive of their own backyards.

>From state parks and theme parks to regional resort towns around lakes, beaches, or mountains, budget-minded travelers are finding plenty of opportunities to relax and unwind just a tank or two of gas away from home.

Talking with friends and relatives who've taken similar trips or searching for nearby family vacation destinations on the Internet can help you turn up some of these nearby family fun spots.

Take Advantage of Discounts and Special Offers

Just like the vacationers who visit them, the owners of hotels and attractions are very mindful of the recession and are offering special deals and discounts to entice vacationers to spend their hard earned dollars with them.

To find these special offers, visit the websites of the destinations, hotels, and attractions you wish to visit and look for a link to the page containing their current discounts and promotions. Additionally, placing a call to the destination can uncover any specials they have recently announced that might not have been posted on the website.

Be Spontaneous

Although it's not always possible, the ability to drop everything and go with a few days' notice can save hundreds if not thousands of dollars. While this may not be feasible for a family that has just a small window of opportunity to get away, families with small or home-schooled children and parents with flexible work schedules can take advantage of these last minute opportunities.

Though it does take some diligence – and the ability to make a quick decision -- the Internet makes it easy than ever to find these deals. Travel comparison sites, like FareCompare.com and Orbitz track the latest deals and pass them along to their readers. Airlines such as Southwest Airlines frequently post last minute airfare and hotel packages online.

To be among the first to know when these deals become available, track sites that follow vacation deals and sign up for their newsletters or deal alerts. If you don't like giving out your email information, you can also follow them on Twitter or Facebook. Just make sure to periodically check their posts and updates in order to take advantage of any time-sensitive offers.

Travel Off Season

In good times or bad, vacationers can save money and avoid the crowds by traveling off season. Peak times for family vacation destinations vary on location, but most are Memorial Day through Labor Day. Vacationers who visit outside of these dates can avoid fighting the crowds and paying peak rates that are associated with the busy season.

If vacationing off season isn't an option, look into the possibility of travelling on weekdays during the peak season. Many resort towns fill up end-week through Saturday night, but are quieter on Sunday through the middle of the week and may even offer room and attraction discounts for these off-days of the week.

One word of caution, however, when traveling off season, some of the attractions may be offered on a more limited basis or not at all. Be sure to call ahead to verify which venues will be open and what their hours will be.

Don't Eat Your Budget

Finally, one of the simplest ways to save while traveling is to avoid paying the inflated tourist prices for food. Booking a hotel room with a kitchenette or even a small refrigerator can help you keep and prepare food for simple meals or lunches to go.

Even theme parks offer in and out privileges. Getting your hand stamped and heading off-site for a picnic or even to a fast food restaurant outside of the attraction can drastically cut down on the costs associated with visiting the park.

Camping Tips To Help Make Your Camping Adventure Tons Of Fun

The best camping tip you can get is to abide by the Boy Scout motto and “be prepared.” There are all sorts of things that can happen on a camping trip so expect the unexpected. Make lists of items that you should bring and pack all the essential equipment. Take into consideration the area where you will be, any rules for the camping site, weather conditions, safety and fun.

The Campsite

Make sure you have the proper equipment for camping. Know what sleeping arrangements are and where you will be cooking. If you are using a camper or RV, much of this will be supplied in your facilities but you will need to know any rules for the particular campsite. If you are sleeping outdoors, make sure you have tents and sleeping bags as well as warm clothing. Bring waterproof matches for campfires and cooking. Set up tents according to instruction. Always leave your campsite the way you found it. The best rule of thumb is to make sure it looks like you were never there.

Food

Bring only the cooking utensils you will need to prepare meals and eat. You will not have a dishwasher and may not have trash bins available. So, make sure you can easily clean and dispose of food items and waste. Bring lightweight, non perishable and easy to cook and clean food items. Canned foods, trail mix, soups and stews are great nutritional meals that are easy to store and carry.

My favorite way to cook while camping is over the fire, using a tripod and aluminum foil. There are lots of delicious meals you can cook by putting a few ingredients in a piece of foil, sealing it, and cooking it. Cleanup is a breeze. There are no dishes to wash. You just need to properly dispose of the used aluminum foil. Do an Internet search for “campfire recipes” and you’ll get lots of delicious foil/pouch campfire meal ideas. While getting ready for camping, do not forget the water. Make sure you have plenty available to keep hydrated and to cook with.

Weather

Plan for the expected weather conditions in the area but do not be surprised if there is a sudden climate change. For summer bring hats for protection, sunscreen and insect repellant. For winter, make sure to dress in layers, wear sunscreen, and have waterproof footwear. Always bring extra clothing in case of a climate change. Even in hot weather it can get very chilly at night. Prepare for rain by ensuring you have shelter, tarps and waterproof attire.

Safety

A first aid kit is a required piece of camping equipment. These can be found pre made in pharmacies and outdoor sporting goods stores. Rope, a flashlight and waterproof matches are also important. Having a compass available will help in case you get lost and a whistle can help you call for help even if you are fatigued. If leaving the campsite, make sure you bring food and water supplies.

Fun

Bring games and toys, especially if you are traveling with children. A game of Frisbee or football is a fun way to spend an afternoon. Bring your fishing rods and canoes for fun on the water. Do not forget to bring binoculars and a camera for hikes and nature walks. You may want to bring art supplies and books in case of inclement weather. For nature walks, insect and plant guide books are usually lightweight and can help you identify wildlife and items in nature.

Camping can be great fun but you should always prepare for things that may come up. Sudden changes in weather can occur and accidents can happen. Make a list of the supplies you will need and carefully pack for your trip. Being prepared will help ensure you have a great time and stay as safe as possible in all conditions.

Golf Exercise Benefits

Golf exercise benefits are many. Golfers have struggled for years with their games and have become very frustrated. I can’t tell you how many times I play with golfers who are about to quit the game.

To explain golf exercise benefits to a golfer takes a little convincing, but in a short amount of time they become believers. There are so many I can’t possible list them all in this article, but you will be motivated to take this approach.

Some of the main golf exercise benefits are; improved power for longer drives; dramatically improved stability for better consistency; a body that moves freer, removing tension from the swing; more energy for 18 holes; elimination of injuries; weight loss; improved concentration due to a reduction in fatigue; I could go on-and-on.

Improved Power For Longer Drives

If your body is weak and inflexible you will not be able to achieve optimal swing mechanics. Such things as a full shoulder turn, with minimal hip rotation; creating and retaining torque (energy) in your core for maximum clubhead spead; proper sequence of motion with muscles firing at the appropriate time; being able to swing just a little harder on long par 5’s and still be in control.

Removing Tension From The Swing

When you improve your flexibility (range of motion specific to your golf swing) you are able to make a full backswing with no tension in the supporting muscles of the swing. Like the shoulders, lower back, upper back (lats), and even the wrists. It is known in most athletics that less tension equals more power.

More Energy For 18 Holes

One of the biggest culprits of back nine blow-ups is loss of energy resulting in poor mental confidence and swing mechanics. I see this one all the time when I playÂ…golfers who are out of shape and lack appropriate fuel intake and maintenance. Having energy for 18 holes builds tremendous confidence and a higher level of play.

Elimination Of Injuries

Golf injuries are prevalent among all amateur golfers, especially senior golfers. The golf swing is a damaging movement on the human body. Swinging a club between 80-100 mph in less than a second can be traumatic. Golfers who don’t have an adequate level of golf strength and flexibility are susceptible to injury every time they swing the club. The lower back usually takes the brunt of the stress and strain. Then hips, knees, shoulders and even wrists. A stronger, more flexible golfer will avoid injuries indefinitely.

Weight Loss

I have worked with over 10,000 golfers via my online golf performance website and they all fill out an initial golf fitness profile. Since I review every one of them personally, I see how many of them have weight loss of 10-30 pounds as a goal. There are more overweight golfers on the course than fit ones. This is because golfers have not come to the conclusion the fitness plays a critical role in golf performance. Exercising will not only improve lean muscle, but melt fat away. To not only improve their golf, but lose weight is icing on the cake for any golfer.

Improved Concentration

How many times have you had a good score going into the back nine only to have a couple of blow-up holes that ruined your score? It happens all the time. Why? Because your body fatigues and your brain doesn’t maintain a high enough level of concentration. The result is poor club selection; swing mechanics and diminishing confidence. A fitter golfer will always have the edge over an out-of-shape one. When the round progresses and tension creeps in they will prevail every time.

The above are only a few golf exercise benefitsÂ…but enough to hopefully convince you that it’s worth looking into. The golf swing is now being viewed as a very athletic movement, like baseball, tennis, etcÂ…and should be approached from a conditioning emphasis. I hope you now realize the return on investment from these golf exercise benefits.

How To Load A Horse Into A Trailer - Easy As Pie!

If there is an art to getting horses to load in a trailer, then this it.

The first thing that must happen is communication between the horse and his handler. The horse must understand what is required of him and the handler must make it easy to understand.

Thus, you must start by getting the horse to move forward in either direction. After a direction is established then get him moving in the opposite direction. A round pen is excellent for this purpose.

When the horse gets good at moving both directions then it's time to hook a lead rope to his halter and lunge him left and right. For instance, when you point left, the horse must know to go to your left. And vice versa for going right.

The final result should look like this. You're holding the lead rope while facing your horse. As you hold the lead rope in your right hand, you hook the middle of the lead rope with your left thumb. Lift it up and point to the left.

Your horse, now knowing what to do, immediately goes to your left. After a circle or two you switch hands and get the horse to go to your right.

When he gets good at that, then send (lunge) him through gate openings, barn door openings, etc. Also, lunge him in smaller spaces to help him deal with his natural claustrophobia. You can do this by lunging him between you and a fence. As he goes back and forth make the space between you and the fence smaller. Be careful not to get stepped on.

Now that he's good at that, you take him by the trailer. You open the door and let him sniff it. Then you step back and face your horse. You lunge him left and right in front of the trailer while he passes back and forth by the opening.

After all this pointing and sending your horse now knows what you want. You have communicated to him when you point left that he is to move left and so on.

The next step is to face him to the trailer. With his head facing into the trailer and you standing on his left side you then send (point) him into the trailer.

Some horses will simply jump right in the trailer where others may take more work.

If your horse doesn't go in after pointing and coaxing then take him away from the trailer and make him work. Now you want to convey the idea that being in the trailer means he can relax. Being outside the trailer means he has to work hard. Eventually, he'll catch on.

Once you have him in the trailer, pet him and let him relax. Talk to him. Let him know how good he did.

Obviously, getting a horse to load in a trailer isn't rocket science. But you can do it. It takes patience and work

What's In Your Hiking Pack?

Every time I leave the pavement, I take along my trusty hiking pack – even if I have no intention of hiking. Doing this has become a habit rather than a conscious decision. My pack goes with me when a hike, camp, hunt, fish, bird watch and even when I drive out of town. I’ve been a boy scout and a United States Marine so I suppose I have learned to be prepared for almost anything. My pack is full of items I hope I will never need.

What’s in Your Hiking Pack? As an outdoor enthusiast, you have complete control over what you carry or what stays in the car – such as a cell phone, do you carry one? I wouldn’t dare go in the backcountry without all of the items listed below as “Highly Recommend.” What’s in My Hiking Pack? Here is my list split into two categories with the weight of each item in ounces:

Highly Recommend: Cell Phone (5 ounces), First-Aid Kit (9), Flashlight (4), Food - Beef Jerky (4), Insect Repellent (3), Map & Compass (4), Multi-Tool (9), Pack (24), Signal Mirror (1), Spare Vehicle Key (1), Sunglasses & Sunscreen (2), Water, Waterproof matches (1), Waterproof windbreaker (24), Whistle (1). Total weight: 5 pounds 12 ounces, not including water.

Nice to Have: Bandana (1), Binoculars (12), Cash & ID (1), Disposable Camera (4), Emergency Blanket (1), Extra Batteries (4), GPS Unit (10), Hand warmers (1), Hunting knife (8), Lighter (1), Lip Balm (1), Mini-Umbrella (10), Paper & Pen (1), Rangefinder (8), Road Flare (4), 12 feet of rope (2), Saw (7), Toilet Paper (1), Two-Way Radio (7), Work Gloves (2). Total weight: 5 pounds 2 ounces.

The total weight of my hiking pack not counting water, is 10 pounds 14 ounces. My pack has a shoulder harness system that takes the weight off of my lower back and distributes it evenly across my shoulders and upper back. I hardly notice my pack when I’m wearing it. One last point, if you carry something – make sure you know how to use it.

We’ve all heard quotes about being prepared, such as “Chance favors the prepared mind.” – Louis Pasteur and “The will to win is important, but the will to prepare is vital.” – Joe Paterno and “Chance fights ever on the side of the prudent.” – Euripides. I suggest carrying a well thought out pack is a good habit and a good outdoor life-skill. One day it may save a family member, an outdoor companion or even you.

Plan ahead before you venture into our backcountry, even if you plan to be gone only an hour or two. It makes good sense. With just this small amount of planning you’ll get the most out of your backcountry experiences. Use this information and you’ll Get It Right The First Time.

He Says, She Says: How to Plan the Perfect Celtic Wedding

Planning the perfect Celtic ceremony involves combining traditions with making decisions. Education on the historical wedding traditions of the Celtic community will help the both of you plan a ceremony that is sure to be everything you dreamed. Making the necessary decisions in wedding planning can be simplified if you know your choices. Lets get started in planning your beautiful and traditional Celtic ceremony with the words to the most widely used Celtic wedding song.

THE WEDDING SONG

THERE THEY STAND HAND IN HAND, AND EXCHANGE WEDDING BANDS. TODAY IS THE DAY ALL OF ALL THEIR DREAMS AND PLANS. AND ALL OF THEIR LOVED ONES ARE HERE TO SAY GOD BLESS thiS COUPLE WHO MARRY TODAY

IN GOOD TIMES AND BAD TIMES, IN SICKNESS AND HEALTH MAY THEY KNOW THAT RICHES ARE NOT NEEDED FOR WEALTH HAVE THEM FACE PROBLEMS THEY'LL MEET ON THEIR WAY GOD BLESS THIS COUPLE WHO MARRY TODAY

AS THEY GO, MAY THEY KNOW EVERY LOVE THAT WILL SHOW AND AS LIFE GETS SHORTER, MAY THEIR FEELINGS GROW WHEREVER THEY TRAVEL, WHEREVER THEY STAY GOD BLESS THIS COUPLE WHO MARRY TODAY

IN GOOD TIMES AND BAD TIMES, IN SICKNESS AND HEALTH MAY THEY KNOW THAT RICHES ARE NOT NEEDED FOR WEALTH HAVE THEM FACE PROBLEMS THEY'LL MEET ON THEIR WAY GOD BLESS THIS COUPLE WHO MARRY TODAY GOD BLESS THIS COUPLE WHO MARRY TODAY

Traditions

The ancient and symbolic ceremony of hand-fasting was often performed by our Celtic kinsmen. To include this beautiful tradition into a wedding, either a rope or a length of fabric will be needed to wrap around the couple’s hands. Decision in the type of "wrap" could include anything that has meaning to the both of you. It could also be created to compliment the colors or theme chosen for your wedding. Some couples have used the remnants of their personal baby blankets or a cherished scarf their grandmother wore. In some families the wrap or rope is passed down through the generations. Whatever your choice of "wrap" the tradition is significant in that it means the bride and groom are becoming one and united. This symbolic tradition is often referred to as tying the knot. In your ceremony the two of you will face each other, join right hands to right hands and the left to the left hands and the chosen fabric or rope will be wrapped around the interlocked hands. A decision can be made to either have the person performing the ceremony or a family member perform the wrapping.

Another widely utilized and very meaningful tradition is the use of a bag piper. The piper has been used in a variety of ways in Celtic weddings. The piper can be presented as a musical accompaniment, standing next to the groom, as the bride walks down the aisle. Other couples have chosen that the piper lead both the bride and groom into the location of the wedding. Locations can be churches, outdoor gardens or other places and will be discussed later in the "decision" section of this article. Whatever your choice of the piper’s role, a bag piper will make the ceremony rich in Celtic heritage and custom.

While the traditions of hand fasting and bag pipers are the most commonly practiced rituals for a Celtic wedding, there are several others to consider.

* Carrying of a horseshoe by the bride is a custom dating back as far as 3-400 years. Carrying an actual horseshoe is a bit cumbersome and heavy. Many brides today choose to have the emblem of the horseshoe sewn inside her dress or embroidered onto the hand-fasting wrap. The symbolism of the "shoe" is what is important. It is meant to bring good luck to the couple.

* The "Grushie" custom is performed by the groom. He is to toss a handful of coins into the crowd at the wedding reception or line of recession as he and his new bride leave the church or have been pronounced as lawfully married. It is best to make sure the coins are small or ones that have been especially made for this purpose. Heavy coins could injure someone.

* The custom of a barefooted bride and groom symbolizes a grounding or connection to the earth. This very old custom was performed for those Celtic peoples that wanted to honor mother earth. I still think that this tradition was designed to honor but for comfort as well. Unless of course you’re getting married on a ground laden with sharp stones or rock.

The above mentioned Celtic traditions are by no means the only ones. They are however, whether you choose to use one or all, certain to give your ceremony the atmosphere of love and at the same time an honoring of our Celtic heritage.

Decisions

Every wedding is full of having to make decisions. Deciding which tradition(s) you want is just a start. The next step is to decide on a location. No matter what traditions you choose to follow, there has to be a place to perform the marriage ceremony. After choosing a location, the bride and groom should decide who is going to make the rest of the decisions. Making wedding arrangements can often run into a "He says, She says" endless problem. Knowing who is going to be responsible for each task in ceremony preparation can often decrease a great deal of stress and arguments. The following are some suggestions on who should do what. Of course, depending on the couple, these can be rearranged to suit who may be better at performing or deciding on specific matters.

Both the Bride and Groom should:

* Decide on the location of the wedding.

* Decide who is going to perform the ceremony. Not all licensed clergy are aware of the traditional Celtic wedding vows or exchanges of commitment.

* Choose the rings that will symbolize your love for each other as well as rings that are reflective of your Celtic heritage. This task does not have to be agonizing. I have found the website http://www.celtic-weddingrings.com to be a great place to start in researching a Celtic knot work design suitable for my fiancée and I.

* Choose the remaining male attendants (groomsmen, ushers) together.

* Choose the male wedding attire. Both of you should do this so that the groom can wear a color he likes and one that suits the color theme of the wedding and the bride’s dress and flowers. This is done by both because the groom does not know (well he shouldn’t anyway) what color(s) are in the wedding gown or on the gowns trim and embroidered work.

Just the Bride:

* Needs to decide on the wedding gown. You may need to consult with a dress designer or company that specializes in Celtic wedding attire. If your wish is to have a dress that reflects your Celtic heritage, many options are available to you. Many Celtic brides choose, somewhere on the dress, to have the Celtic knot sewn or patterned into the gown. The "knot" is symbolic of love, commitment and life. This would compliment nicely with the hand-fasting ceremony too.

* Chooses the maid or matron of honor and other attendants.

* Plans the flower arrangements, wedding favors (name cards, catering, stationary to name just a few). When you choose your attendants be sure to have them help you with these too.

Just the Groom:

* Needs to plan the honeymoon. How about a trip to a Celtic land? What better place to go than where your Celtic roots began.

* Needs to choose a best man. A best man is a male friend or family member you feel cares the most about you. This is an important choice because you will need some help with the time consuming tasks that always come with planning a wedding and honeymoon.

Planning your Celtic wedding will be one of the most important events you will ever oversee. Someday, whether it is 30 or 60 years later, the both of you will remember your wedding day as a blessing. It is the day the two of you announced your commitment to each other. It is a day your Celtic ancestors looked upon you in spirit and smiled.

Making Your Own Cornhole Set

The cornhole game is one that not everyone knows about. There are some parts of the country where it is much more popular than others. In these areas, individuals play it at parties and other events. It is played outdoors, and consists of a board with a hole in it and soft bags which are thrown into that hole to score points. The board can either be made of wood or plastic, but they are generally wooden. One of the best things about the cornhole set is that a person who likes working with his or her hands can actually build a cornhole board. He or she does not have to have a lot of fancy tools, and directions can be found on the Internet for free in many places. As long as good-quality wood is used and the instructions are followed, there is no reason why a quality cornhole set cannot be constructed. Even someone who does not have a lot of experience working with wood or tools can build his or her own cornhole set.

Some people will make their own cornhole board and then buy the bags. However, the bags can also be made quite easily. When the cornhole game was first invented, the bags were made of burlap, denim, or other strong cloth. They were stuffed with corn (hence the name cornhole) and they lasted a long time. Good quality bags that can be purchased today also last a long time. However, some bags are not good quality, and they wear out quickly. If a person wants to make his or her own cornhole set, he or she should make sure that the cloth that is used is strong enough to withstand a lot of use. In addition, though, it is very important to make sure that the cloth is also soft and flexible enough that the bags move and are easily tossed. Bags with no ‘give’ to them will be much more difficult to deal with. Strong but soft cloth is the key to making cornhole bags.

In addition to what cloth to use, a person must decide what to fill the bags with. Even though corn was used in the past, it is not always a good alternative today. Corn can eventually mold if it gets wet, and can cause other problems. After enough use, it will deteriorate. The same is true with small beans, which are another common filler for bags that are used for this kind of game. Many commercial sets today use plastic pellets to fill their bags. This avoids deterioration and break down, while still providing game players with basically the same kind of experience that they would get with a traditional, corn-filled bag. The size and weight of the bag, as well as its flexibility, are the most important issues which must be addressed when building one’s one cornhole set. If a person takes the time to build his or her cornhole set correctly, it will be much more enjoyable and last much longer.

Bird Feeder Basics

Bird Feeders The fastest way to a bird's heart is definitely through their stomach. Put up a backyard bird feeder and birds will certainly come to feed in your yard. Where you live determines what you'll see because of differences in birds' range and habitat preferences. As words spread about your feeder, the kinds of birds and the size of crowd will increase. Even if you live in the city where it seems pigeons and house sparrows are the only birds on earth, you'll get surprise visitors that find your food or stop in on migration.

Bird Feeder Basics When you shop for bird feeders, you'll find your choices are almost limitless. You may wonder how to decide what to buy. Here are some hints.

Ease of use - The most important factor in choosing a feeder is how easy it is to use - for both the owner and the birds. You want a feeder that's easy to fill and that holds a reasonable amount of seed. If you are just getting started, look for a feeder that displays seed in full view because birds are attracted by the sight of food and by the sight of other birds eating. An open tray is great for starters.

Make sure your bird feeder has plenty of room for birds to eat without protrusions or decorations getting in the way. Birds also like a feeder with a raised ledge or perch that they can grasp while eating.

Size - When birds come to a bird feeder, they want food, and they wait it fast. Choose a main tray feeder that's big enough for at least a dozen birds to eat at once. Supplement that with hopper- and tube-type bird feeders. Domed feeders are great for small birds like chickadees. Feeders inside wire cages give small birds a place to eat and peace without competition from starlings or other larger birds. Once you have one or two large bird feeder you can add as many smaller feeders as you like.

Quality - Make sure your bird feeder is well made. A sturdy, simple, but beautiful feeder costs more than you'd think. Expect to pay $30 - $75 for a feeder that will last for years.

Tray (Platform) Feeders A must have for any backyard is a simple wooden tray feeder. It's big, it's easy to fill, and it accommodates several birds. The other feeders pick up the overflow and they can be stocked with treats. Cardinals, finches, jays, grosbeaks, bluebirds, blackbirds, nuthatches, chickadees, titmice, and buntings all prefer an open tray feeder. The only birds reluctant to us a tray feeder mounted on a post are ground-feeding birds. A very low tray on stumped legs will accommodate these birds, which include native sparrows, quail, towhees, and doves. You can put any kind of seed in a tray except for small Niger, lettuce, and grass seeds, which are prone to blow away or get wasted. Platform feeders are also good places to put out doughnuts, bread crumbs and fruit.

Platform feeders with a roof are often called fly-through feeders. One problem with tray feeders is that plenty of seed gets kicked to the ground. Adding raised edges to a platform feeder transforms it into tray feeder.

Tray feeders can be hung. A popular hanging model, the Droll Yankees X-l Seed saver is protected by a dome to keep seed dry and prevent squirrels from raiding. this feeder works especially well as a mealworm feeder.

Hopper Feeders Hopper-style bird feeders with plastic or glass enclosures that dole out seed as they're needed, are an efficient choice because seed is used as needed and large amounts aren't exposed to wet or snowy weather, or kicked out by scratching birds. Many birds, including chickadees, nuthatches, titmice, cardinals, jays, and woodpeckers, eat eagerly at a hopper feeder. Make sure the tray of a hopper-style bird feeder has enough room for more than two or three birds to gather and eat, and check to see if the feeder will be easy to clean if seed spoils in bad weather. Be especially careful if you mount your hopper feeder permanently in the garden. If the hopper or frame blocks the tray, the feeder may be very hard to clean.

Hopper feeders are not always rectangular. They can be many-sided or tubular, resembling a gazebo, lantern, or silo, and may be called by those names. A popular round hopper design is the Sky Cafe by Arundale, a hanging feeder made entirely of clear polycarbonate. The hopper and feeding platform are protected by a large, steeply sloped hood designed to detour squirrels. The idea of a large dome above a feeder to protect it from squirrels is incorporated in a number of feeder designs, including Droll Yankees' Big Top.

One of the most significant innovations in hopper feeders has been the "squirrel-proof" models created by Heritage Farms, such as The Absolute II. Birds must sit on a rail to reach the seed tray. The rail has a counterweight that can be adjusted so that a squirrel's weight or that of a jay or blackbird will cause the shield to lower in front of the tray.

Wire-Mesh Feeders Perfect for holding shelled peanuts wire-mesh feeders are fun to watch. Blue jays, woodpeckers, and chickadees can cling to the mesh and pick seeds out one at a time. Squirrels can pick seeds too, but one seed at a time can be painfully slow. Wire-mesh feeders work equally well dispensing black oil sunflower seeds and most other larger seeds. Small, round millet grains pour through the openings and are not a good choice for these feeders.

Most commercial wire-mesh feeders are tubular, but some are shaped like hoppers and may be attached to a platform where birds can perch to feed, rather than having to cling to the mesh.

Mesh bags, often called thistle socks, are also available for dispensing Niger seed. Refillable socks made of fabric and disposable ones made of plastic are available. Squirrels or rain can quickly ruin thistle socks, so hang them in a protected place.

Window Feeders Years ago, before the fancy screens and storm windows, many people simply scattered a handful of crumbs or seeds for the birds on their windowsills. You can mount a simple shallow tray feeder on the outside of a window, mounting it like a window box (but higher and closer to the pane). You can use wooden or metal brackets that attach below the sill or on the sill. Perfect for kids and indoor cats - many window feeders attach with suction cups. Typically made of clear plastic, models by Aspects, Duncraft and K-Feeders are among those available.

The most popular window feeders are made by Coveside and the Birding Company. A one-way mirror allows the feeding activity to be observed while keeping the birds from being disturbed. The feeders need to be placed in a sunny spot for the one-way mirror to work. The feeder can be cleaned and food replaced from inside the house.

Tube Feeders Simple tube feeders are a perfect example of form matching function. They're self-contained, so seed stays dry; they hold a good quantity of seed, so they don't need refilling too often; and they can accommodate several birds at one time. Not all tube feeders are created equal though. You should invest a few extra dollars in the more expensive feeders such as Duncraft or Droll Yankees. The tube itself is sturdier, the feeding holes are designed better so there's less spillage or feeds as birds eat, and the heavier metal used on top and bottom makes the feeder much more stable. Being heavier they don't swing as easily in the wind scattering seed on the ground.

Tube feeders are welcomed by goldfinches, purple finches, pine siskins, chickadees, and house finches, who seem to know they can eat in peace there without being disturbed by the bigger birds. The size of the hole (port) determines whether you have a feeder that should be filled with Niger, birdseed mix or sunflower seeds.

There are two styles of tube feeders. One is designed with small feeding ports for the tiny Niger seeds; the other has larger ports for such seeds as black oil sunflower, safflower, or mixed seed.

Not all tube feeders are cylinders. There are tube feeders with three, four, or more sides. It is the idea of feeding ports built into the elongated seed container that makes a feeder a tube feeder.

The Droll Yankees A6 Tube Feeder is still a top seller. Droll Yankee feeders have a lifetime guarantee. Other variations include Perky Pet's Upside-Down Thistle Feeder. Perches are placed above the feeding ports so that seed can be accessed only by finches that can feed upside down, a design that excludes house finches.

Two or three tubes are sometimes ganged together, as the Opus TopFlight Triple Tube Feeder. With a total of 12 ports, it can feed more birds than a single tube, and it also has the option of being filled with a different seed type in each tube.

Most tube feeders are made of transparent plastic, but Vari-Craft makes particularly attractive tube feeders of white PVC. Ports are made of a hard plastic. A squirrel-proof model is available with stainless steel ports.

Most tube feeders can be fitted with round trays underneath that catch spillage from birds like finches, which are notoriously messy eaters. The tray serves double duty as a small platform feeder for such birds as cardinals and doves, which benefit from the slung seed.

Tube feeders are sometimes placed inside a wire-mesh cage for protection from squirrels. Cages also keep large birds like grackles from perching on a tray and reaching up to the feeder ports.

Nectar Feeders Sweet sugar water, or nectar, is a huge draw for hummingbirds. Put up a nectar feeder and you're practically guaranteed to get hummers. The birds search for red and deep orange-red flowers, andanything that color will bring them in for a closer look. Your nectar feeder may also attract other birds with a sweet tooth, including orioles, house finches, and woodpeckers. In the wild these birds would satisfy that craving with real nectar from flowers, or a sip of sugary tree sap or fruit juice. The sugar boost gives them quick calories and the energy needed to live.

As with other bird feeders, look for a nectar feeder that's easy to fill and easy to clean. Make sure you can remove the base to clean out the feeding holes. Bee guards of gridded plastic over the feeder openings are a necessity unless you like to watch constant battles between wasps and hummingbirds.

Suet Feeders Suet feeders are not nearly as complex as some seed feeders. They can be as simple as a mesh sack - the kind often used for onions and potatoes. Toss a chunk of raw suet in an empty mesh sack and hang it on a tree trunk or from a branch or pole.

A popular way of presenting suet is in homemade suet logs. Perches are not necessary and if used will attract grackles and starlings. Woodpeckers and small clinging birds can get a grip on the rough wood. Stuffed with suet, these logs have woodpeckers as regular visitors. Standing dead trees can be drilled and filled like giant suet logs. If meant to attract woodpeckers, a suet feeder is likely to be found most quickly if it is attached initially to a tree trunk. Once the woodpeckers have found it, the feeder can be moved to other spots and the birds will follow.

Suet cages are sometimes combined with bird feeders. Health Manufacturing makes a beautiful redwood hopper feeder with suet cages at either end, the Classic Suet 'n Seed Feeder. Woodlink makes a similar model with a copper roof.

New Years Resolutions for the BackCountry

The New Year has begun and you probably have a few New Year’s Resolutions under way. You’ll lose weight, lose a bad habit, add a good habit or even mend an old fence. But do you have any resolutions for the backcountry? Are you ready to make this year your best backcountry year? I’m ready. Here are a few of my backcountry New Year’s Resolutions; please adopt a couple of these for yourself. If you do, 2005 will be your best outdoor year yet.

First off, I resolve to spend more time in the backcountry. No matter how much time I spend hiking or camping, it never seems to be enough. So this year I will try to get my fill of the outdoors. Of course, I said this last year too but failed to get enough.

Next I resolve to upgrade my critical gear. Some things are more comfortable the longer you own them, but this isn’t good practice for critical backcountry gear. For example, it’s been a few years since I upgraded my first-aid kit or my hiking boots or my sunglasses. These items become a liability if they are not properly maintained. I’ve let that slip. I’ll also take a long look at my binoculars and my camping kitchen, especially my stove. Taking care of your gear will ensure its ability to take care of you when you need it most.

While we’re discussing gear, let’s keep going with another resolution. I resolve to learn how to use all of my gear. I’ve been carrying a magnesium stick for fire starting for about 5 years. I don’t think I know how to use it. I’m going to learn. I need to understand more about my GPS receiver (Garmin eTrex Vista). I use about five percent of its capabilities and this is only because I haven’t taken the time to learn. That changes this year.

I also resolve to learn a new backcountry skill. I haven’t decide what skill to learn but it will be something I’ve never done before. I’ve never taken the time to learn how to rock climb. Perhaps that’s the one, or maybe kayaking. I’ve never collected water using a solar still. That sounds interesting too. Maybe you need to learn CPR or how to read a map or tie a variety of knots. This is the year to fill in the knowledge gaps.

Finally, I resolve to bring someone new into the backcountry this year. When I see the perfect sunset or a herd of antelope, the next thought I have is “I wish so-and-so was here to see this!” So this year, I’m going to share the awe of our backcountry with someone brand new to the outdoors. By sticking to these New Year’s Resolutions, I will have a great year in our backcountry. I hope to see you there!

Use this information and you’ll Get It Right The First Time. Get Outdoors!

How To Start Organizing Your Home

Where do I start organizing my home? While some home organization specialists will tell you to start in the kitchen, I’m going to advise beginning in another area. The kitchen will be the third place we attack and this doesn’t make it less important, but I will explain why I’m starting elsewhere.

First, if you look around your home, you probably see lots of clothes. Am I right? You’ve got clothes in closets, you’ve got clothes in piles (meaning to put them away and not having time, eventually just pulling them out of the pile and wearing them), and you’ve got clothes in laundry baskets. You might even have rumpled clothes in the dryer or (heaven forbid!) the washer. If it’s the former, the clothes are only rumpled. If it’s the latter, they’re probably rumpled AND smelly and (potentially) mildew-y. Yuck! If you don’t have a laundry room but have a laundry closet (with room for the washer, dryer, and some shelves), I’m betting you haven’t seen the top of your dryer for weeks or even months. It’s covered in rumpled clothes and towels, right?

Have you guessed where we’re starting? That’s right! The laundry area of your home. And here’s why: if you get your laundry room cleaned and organized, you’ll be much more apt to actually DO the laundry that plagues you and helps your home to be disorganized. And because you won’t want to undo the work you’ve done in the laundry room, you’re more likely to fold the laundry when it’s done, and put it away. There’s something that’s a breath of fresh air about a straightened laundry room, sort of like when you walk in to a closet where everything is hanging neatly.

So start with small steps:

Can you see the floor? No? Then pick up what’s on the floor and put it in laundry baskets. If you don’t have enough laundry baskets to accomplish this, then just sort the things in to piles outside the laundry room. I make piles of light clothes, whites, darks, and towels/rags.

Can you see the top of the dryer? If not, put the excess clothes in the aforementioned piles. Grab one rag to dust and have two plastic grocery bags, one to collect junk, and the other for later. Dust the dryer from the lint leftovers and use a little window cleaner if it doesn’t come off readily. Don’t neglect the area where the “start” button is, that can be grimy, too!

Ok - now you’ve got your washer & dryer cleaned off. Congratulations!

Now take a critical look at your supply shelves. Do you have empty bottles or boxes lying around from spent detergent and/or fabric softener? Clean those out. Use that grocery bag that you’ve put excess dryer lint in and pitch those empties. Then organize what’s left. If you need to add things to your shopping list, now is the time—now you know what you’ve got and what you need to buy. When you organize your supplies, I recommend putting the detergent and any liquid softener above the (gasp!) washer. Make it easy to reach. Put the dryer sheets over or on the dryer why reach more than you have to? If your shelves are higher than you’d like, use the top ledge of your washer & dryer to hold supplies! I’ve never seen a washer and dryer that didn’t butt up to a wall for the electrical plugs they need. So use that space to your advantage. Put the detergent box or bottle on the top of the washer, along with whatever other washing supplies you have.

If you have wire shelves above your washer & dryer, you’ve got a built-in place to hang a trash bag. Use that extra grocery sack and cut one of the handles in half. Then tie those two ends around some of the wire shelf and use the bag to collect dryer lint and empty containers from your emptied laundry supplies. When it’s full, cut it down and put it in the trash and put up a new one.

Now look at your floor. Does it need sweeping? If so, grab a broom and sweep. It won’t take you more than 5 minutes and you’ll feel much better about your room and your work, especially if something you’ve just washed falls on the floor as you’re transferring stuff to the dryer.

Congratulations! You’ve done the preliminary work of organizing your home, you've won the battle in your laundry room! Take a 15 minute break and enjoy this victory. Then start the task of doing the excess laundry that you’ve been collecting, one pile at a time. When the first is done, swap it out immediately to your dryer or to hangers, if that’s more appropriate. Take it one pile at a time, in other words, small steps! Soon, you’ll find that it really only takes 5-10 minutes to fold warm clothes from the dryer and put them in laundry baskets, ready to transfer to the appropriate rooms, closets, and drawers. Now that you have some extra time, you can start on another room. How to start organizing your home wasn't all that hard afterall!

Crowdy Bay National Park

Crowdy Bay National Park is located in New South Wales, and quite near to Port Macquarie. this area gets quite a few visitors, in part because of the close proximity to the park. Crowdy Bay is a good sized park of around 8022 hectares, and includes some of almost every type of scenery and landscape that Mother Nature has supplied to the earth. A volcanic crater, better known as Diamond Head, is one of the most noticeable landscape features. Also, the restored writing hut of Australian author Kylie Tennant is nestled at the base of Diamond Head. this history behind this hut is fascinating, and the structure is considered to be a cultural attraction of some importance.

Nature lovers, get ready! At Crowdy Bay National Park, you’ll be able to appreciate a wide range of animals, including the koala, wallabies, pygmy possum, grey kangaroo, and the rufous betong. Several varieties of snakes, lizards, and tortoises also live in the park. You’ll find many beautiful wild flowers as well as scattered clumps of forest that include melaleuca, turpentine, rosewood and black wattle trees.

Over 100 different varieties of birds call Crowdy Bay National Park home, including the rare black cockatoo. It is not unusual to see an eagle, falcon, or harrier flying overhead. The heathland all over the park attracts bird varieties whose diet is nectar, and you’ll also see birds who are just as happy on land as in the air, such as the quail.

What can you do at Crowdy Bay National Park besides enjoy all of the lovely flora and fauna? Visitors are often surprised to learn that there are so many activities waiting for them here. In the area around Diamond Head, you can participate in many water sports, including swimming, snorkelling, and surfing. Fishing is also very popular, and for the photography maven, there are practically unlimited chances for that perfect shot.

A walking track nearby called the Diamond Head Loop Track is available for those visitors who may wish to do some power walking. You will be able to see quite a lot of the different types of forests in the park, such as the heathland, the eucalyptus forest, the wet sclerophyll forest, and the casuarina forest. You’ll also have the pleasure of seeing some gorgeous scenery.

Also at Diamond Head is an area known as Kylie’s Beach, named for the Kylie Tennant mentioned above. There is also a camping area known as Kylie’s Beach Camping Area, and the hut that once belonged to Ms. Tennant can be seen as you follow a short, looped walking path from this area, through the forest, and back around to the beach. During your walk, take the time to admire the rosewood, oak, cheesetree, and black wattle trees that line the path.

Other camping areas close by include Indian Head, and the main Diamond Head camping area. Most of the amenities that one would expect from a nice camping area are in place, except that there is no drinking water anywhere inside the park. Visitors should plan to bring their own supply.

Crowdy Bay National Park is a lovely spot to enjoy during your Port Macquarie holiday.

Tanzania Safari: The Seat Of Marvel

The best things in nature are those that were preserved since God created Earth. Tanzania, being one of the places, which for many years have been attempting to preserve its natural beauty, asserts the wonders that may seem to have come directly from the Creator's hands.

Its beauty is unrivalled, its resources vast. Tanzania is simply a place of great marvel. Its wildlife sanctuaries are fresh and unspoilt. Wildlife roam in its area as it was intended after the creation. They are free; they flourish at their own rate at their own fashion.

It is no wonder why Tanzania safari is placed among the world's finest in game viewing.

Aside from the games, Tanzania safari is also well known for its enormous gatherings of wildlife habitats and ecosystems. The Northern Circuit is the most popular entry route towards Tanzania safari which covers the Ngorongoro and Serengeti, places that appeal most to nature and wildlife lovers. Nonetheless, sanctuaries like Tarangire, Arusha and the Lake Manyara are no less dazzling than the two. All these combined makes Tanzania Safari an unimaginable haven for the congregation of animals.

On top of the wonders are the world-known big five, which covers buffalo, elephant, rhino, lion and leopard. Complemented by endless array of plain animals such as the zebra, Thompson gazelle, eland, wildebeest, oryx and others that are included in the same genre. Add to the count the merciless predators that help balance nature like the cheetah, vultures, jackal, wild dog and hyena. Not only does Northern Circuit collects its fame from these animals, it is also recognized for its over 500 bird species which turns it into an ornithologist's paradise.

As we have earlier noted, the Arusha town is the starting point for northern adventure. It sits nearest to Mount Meru and only distant enough so travelers will get to see the mighty and awesome Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain found in all Africa.

Arusha, aside from the wild animals that it nurses, is also a refuge for rich tapestry of ecosystems that thrive on grassland, heath, montane forest, alpine desert and soda and fresh water lakes.

All these aside, Tanzania is made more distinguished by the largest caldera there is in the world- the Ngorongoro Crater. A natural world wonder itself, Ngorongoro Crater gives refuge to some 30,000 wild animals.

Truly, the Tanzanian safaris will let you witness how nature works, how the dance of life interplay with the death and survival of animals that it constitutes and how the balance of nature is maintained.

Places You Have To Visit in the United States

Places You Have To Visit in america

Ah, America with many things to see and do!! Hopefully, these will give you some great ideas.

Grand Canyon National Park

The Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona begins this list. Featuring mesas of numerous colors, craggy cliffs, and smaller canyons, it is essentially the most breathtaking natural wonders on the planet. The Grand Canyon National Park is considered the jewel of America's National Parks. Visiting early in the year when cooler and desert flowers are bloomingis the better time for you to visit. Summertime can be unbearably hot. Paved, accessible trails give you a way to walk between Grand Canyon Village as well as the South Kaibab Trailhead, two completely different areas of the Grand Canyon.. They are far enough apart, that it really is difficult to visit both on a single trip, but that provides a person a reason to check out again. Not that a reason to check out this glorious site is needed!!! More people check out the South rim, as it is easily accessible, has the most panoramic views, and offers more services. But the North Rim is charming as the cooler temperatures help the growth of the lovely wildflowers and also the trees are thick. The canyon has a glass, horse-shoe shaped skywalk with a great view where visitors will likely have the feeling of vertigo. The Grand Canyon is just too very wonderful to miss when traveling in america.

Orlando, Florida

Number 2 is Orlando, Florida,a fantastic, fun city with many places to check out and things to do. Orlando is known as the largest family entertainment center on the planet. Probably most widely known is Walt Disney World featuring the Magic Kingdom where one can shake hands with Mickey, dine in Cinderella's Castle or perhaps get married with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse as your attendants. The whole park is wonderful and you also surely are going to have fun with the clowns at Cirque du Soleil's La Nouba. A safari is an excellent adventure when you visit Animal Kingdom.

Take in the Epcot Center and tour the world in "Under a Mile". Design and experience your own ride, hang glide above California's redwood forests, ride in a "clamobile" with Nemo and his awesome friends, or launch into space!! Go to Universal Studios and fight against aliens, see a "volcano' erupt, view your favorite movies come to life, and so much more.

Of course, a holiday to Orlando, without going to Seaworld, is nearly impossible. You possibly can ride the breathtaking Mantra rollercoaster or feel a sense of weightlessness on the Omaka Rocka. Discover the lost city of Atlantis, touch a stingray, and maybe see a dolphin mother and her calves. It really is great fun to eat in the Sharks Underwater Grill and view the mighty predators.

There are a selection of side trips to take. For instance visit the Kennedy Space Center and perhaps dine with an astronaut, train like an astronaut, or maybe see a rocket launch. Nearby you may go whale watching.

Back in Orlando, shop your heart out at The Mall at Millenia. For golfers, there are more than 176 golf courses. You possibly can, also, watch the NBA Orlando Magic play basketball.

Then take a breath, get back to the Magic Kingdom and watch the nightly fireworks.

While enjoying your trip to Orlando, it is so nice to stay in one of many Kissimmee Villas, of which there are several. Many are close to Walt Disney World and/or are within short driving distances of bars, shops, restaurants, and golf courses. Some include pools, tennis courts and children's play areas and more.

These amazing places offer a change from what you would normally look for in http://www.holiday365.co.uk/citybreaks. Next time you are planning a trip to one of your favourite http://www.holiday365.co.uk/parks, give one of these locations a consideration.

Park City Utah Winter Activities

As with many ski towns, Park City was originally established as a mining town. In the 1860’s, flocks of people moved here to pursue riches in silver mining. At this time the streets were lined with saloons and featured a very popular red-light district. In the 1930’s mineral prices fell due to the depression, and the town felt the effect. Business collapsed and the population dwindled. Over time things got better and in 1963 Park City Consolidated Mines built the first chairlift on what was then known as Treasure Mountain. At this time, $3.50 would get you a weekend pass to go skiing and sledding. Times have changed a bit since then, but the skiing is still world-class, and the town offers many cultural events and festivals.

Now that you have a little history of the town, let’s take a look at what there is to do during the winter months. Skiing and snowboarding is by far the most popular, but there are many other winter activities to be enjoyed.

Skiing and Snowboarding

Park City offers three distinct choices for your skiing or snowboarding vacation. Deer Valley Ski Resort offers 1,750 acres of skiable terrain with a vertical drop of 3,000 feet. On average Deer Valley receives about 300 inches of snow per year. It features 19 lifts, and 88 trails with the longest trail traveling 10,560 feet. This resort was rated #1 by Ski Magazine in 2001 and 2005. Although the terrain is great and the runs are endless, Deer Valley does not allow snowboarders. Skiers of all types can enjoy this wonderful mountain resort. The resort opened in 1981, and ever since then, it prides itself on providing high quality service both on and off the mountain.

The next resort on the list happens to be the largest ski and snowboard resort in Utah. The Canyons Resort features 3,700 amazing acres of skiable terrain, with 200 + acres opening for the 2006/2007 season. This skiers and snowboarders paradise features 17 lifts and 152 trails with the longest run being 13,200 feet. The resort also features 2 terrain parks and 6 half pipes. This ultimate winter playground also features a ski and snowboard school that can help the beginner, or the most experienced expert.

The last resort on our list was home to the 2002 winter Olympics. Park City Mountain Resort offers 3,300 acres of skiable terrain, and is consistently ranked in the top 10 North American resorts because of its varied terrain, ease of getting there, terrain parks and family programs. Park City Resort offers 15 lifts and 104 trails, with the longest trail traveling 18,480 feet. Park City offers 1 superpipe and multiple terrain parks for those that are looking to test their skills. Park City, offers something for everyone with fabulous skiing, snowboarding and many other winter activities.

Park City Lodging Dining and Nightlife

Park City offers an abundance of lodging choices. Hotels, condos, private residence clubs and private homes are the most popular choices for travelers. Hotels can be found slope side or in the heart of the downtown area. Each hotel offers something a little bit different depending on how much you would like to spend. You will be able to find small budget hotels or very expensive high class luxury hotels. The high class hotels are well worth the money. From the moment you walk through the lobby doors, you will not have to worry about a thing. After staying at one of these types of hotels, you will never want to stay anywhere else. Another Park City lodging choice for large groups or families would be a condo rental or a private residence club. A condo rental can be a great choice for a family. Many times condo rentals don’t offer the full services of a hotel or a private residence club but offer full kitchens and all the main ingredients to make your family trip memorable and more affordable. Private Residence Clubs are becoming the lodging choice of the future. These clubs can offer 2, 3 and four bedrooms suites in large complexes. These can be quite luxuries with a full staff including concierge, bell staff, ski valet, and sometimes twice daily maid service. A private residence club can be a great choice for a family getaway.

Park City offers many choices for dining and nightlife activities when the playing is done for the day. The downtown area offers over 100 restaurants and bars to choose from. Many of these establishments are award winning and serve some of the best dishes in the Intermountain West. Once you are done with diner, head out to a jazz club, dance club or just hang out at one of the many eclectic bars. Making the decision can be the toughest part because there is something for everyone in this town. Most restaurants and bars are very close to each other, or they are just a short free bus ride from where you are located.

Which ever activity or activities you choose to participate in while you are in Park City, you are sure not to be disappointed. We have only begun to scratch the surface with the activities listed above. The best advice is to do a little planning and research before you visit, so you can make the most of your next winter adventure to Park City.

How To Swaddle Your Newborn Baby

During the first few weeks your newborns internal thermostat is not completely functioning right there for they can become too hot or too cold. Wrapping or swaddling your baby can keep your baby at the correct temperature as well as keeping them feeling secure, thus allowing them to sleep well.

Swaddling your baby is simply wrapping your baby snugly in a blanket for warmth and security.

Swaddling your baby can reduce the amount your baby is disrupted due to their own startled reflex and will assist in maintaining warmth for your newborn during their first few days until their temperature is able to calculate itself to the correct temperature. Swaddling your baby is also important as it can help to calm them.

When you have your newborn, nurses at the hospital will more than likely show you how to swaddle your baby before you leave to go home. They emphasis the importance of swaddling to help your baby sleep better during naps and especially at night. If your baby is sleeping then so will you and your family.

Another great reason to swaddle your baby is that it has been known to help reduce some of the risks associated with SIDS. Swaddling prevents babies from rolling on their tummy during sleep, helps with maintaining a healthy temperature and by swaddling your baby the blanket is secure and unable to cover their faces.

During the first month of your newborns life when they tend to sleep most of their day and are not very active having your baby swaddled will make them fell snug and secure like in their mother’s womb. However after about a month keep swaddling your baby but just at sleep time as they need to be able to move freely and explore their surroundings.

You can swaddle your baby as long as they will tolerate it. this varies among individual babies. When your baby gives you ques that they no longer wants to be swaddled be sure to stop straight away as this will just disrupt both the babies and your sleep. Some ques may include crying, kicking or wriggling out of their wrap.

So how do you swaddle your baby?

Follow these few simple tips for the perfect swaddle

• Lay a blanket on a flat surface and fold down the top right corner about 6 inches

• Place your baby on their back with his head on the fold

• Pull the corner near your babies left hand across his body, and tuck the leading edge under his back on the right side under his arm

• Pull the bottom corner up under your babies chin

• Bring the loose corner over your babies right arm and tuck it under the back on his left side

If your baby prefers to have their arms free you can swaddle them under their arms.

Another alternative is to buy a swaddle blanket. These blankets make swaddling your baby simple. In two easy steps your baby is warm and secure ready for bed.

Such swaddles can be found at this online baby bedding boutique www.babybeddingplus.com

How To Prepare For A Camping Trip

Camping is a great outdoor activity that can be enjoyed both by couples, a group of friends or by the entire family. The following are some tips for beginners about how to prepare for their camping trip.

Most first-time campers usually being their foray into camping as tent campers or car campers since all their camping equipment is loaded into their car (instead of an RV). Uppermost on their list of things needed would obviously have to be a tent. They don't have to choose and expensive tent as long as it provides adequate weather protection and shields the campers from natural elements such as the wind, sun, and rain. You also need a secure tent that can keep you away from flies, mosquitoes and other pests. Your tent will also be, in all likelihood, your best place for privacy and where you will store your clothes and camping gear to keep them safe from the weather

Sleeping under the stars can be great sometimes, but sooner or later you will want a tent. The same can be said of sleeping bags. It should have enough padding to cushion you comfortably against the hard ground. Make sure that all the inflatable pads and closed-cell pads are working properly. If you plan to do most of your camping during summer, a lightweight and inexpensive rectangular sleeping bag will do. And don't forget to bring a pillow.

Plan what you will be eating. Experienced campers or backyards chefs will likely have lots of recipes for outdoor cooking. It's also possible to get on simply a cooler of drinks, sandwiches, and snacks.

Thankfully, you can find a grill and picnic table at most public campsites. If grilling is your thing, you will be best-served by bringing a bag of charcoal and a spatula and you'll be ready to cook your steaks, hot dogs, and hamburgers on the grill. For prolonged period of camping or for your next camping trip, you might like to try bringing a propane stove, a skillet and a few pots so that you can expand your cooking choices.

Before you embark on any camping trip, it is best to have a checklist of things to do so that you don't forget anything. Another useful thing to bring along is an experienced camper. You can easily learn everything you need to know from them.

The Air Mattress of the Future is Here!

An air mattress is no longer just a cheap blow-up bed for camping, but a luxurious and comfortable bed that can compete with the old box spring or foam mattress beds for quality and comfort. Air mattresses can be adjusted to your ideal firmness or softness, unlike beds of old.

According to the dictionary an air mattress is an inflatable mattress, usually made of some type of plastic material. After reading this definition it doesn't make you want to rush out and purchase one. After all, who wants to sleep on a cold piece of plastic? But the air mattresses of today are so much more than a large rectangular plastic balloon. They even offers options not available to box spring or foam mattress owners.

A cheap air mattress can be deflated and rolled up and is ideal for camping trips. They can also be very handy to have around the house as a temporary place to sleep for extended family and guests. But when it comes to real luxury and real comfort the newer air mattresses of today have no peers.

Deluxe air bed mattresses are made for the home and are designed with one thing in mind, comfort. Sure, they may be made of plastic, but that cold plastic is covered with soft and luxurious fabrics that can help you realize the most relaxing night's sleep in a very long time. Plus, they come in all regular sizes including twin, full, queen and king and will typically use the standard size sheets. No need to search high and low for bed sheets in hard-to-find sizes.

The more expensive ones have high quality pumps that come attached, allowing for easy and quick inflation or deflation. Pump them up by pushing a button and then deflate them by pushing another button. Adjust the firmness or softness with one finger. It couldn't get any easier unless you had someone else push the button for you. And deflating them entirely can be done in a matter of seconds. It should be noted that not all brands and models have pumps. If you are strapped for cash you can certainly find a cheap one that must be inflated manually. These cheap brands can save you some money and give you more exercise than you want, both at the same time.

A top-of-the-line air mattress will contain additional features for comfort, luxury and ease-of-use. Some include separate hand-held firmness controls for each side of the bed. If one person likes it firm and the other prefers soft, both can be satisfied with separate firmness controls.

By simply pushing a button one sleeper can adjust their side of the air mattress to any level of desired firmness, from extra firm to soothingly soft, all without affecting the other sleeper's comfort.

One of the more popular air bed mattress manufacturers is Select Comfort. They have Sleep Number Beds that use uniquely designed air chambers to provide a gentle cushion of support which can be easily adjusted to the sleeper's preference for comfort and firmness. In addition, the Sleep Number bed allows couples to individually adjust their own side to the precise comfort level that they prefer.

If you enjoy having a pillow top on your mattress you will be happy to know that you can fit your deluxe air mattress with the same types of pillow tops, sheets, blankets, pillows and comforters that you have grown to love on your spring or foam bed.

The air mattress has all of the positive attributes that make sleeping relaxing and comfortable. But the air mattress has additional comfort features that cannot be found on other types of beds. If you are looking for luxury there is no need to look any further, the air mattress beds of today have everything necessary to ensure a good night's sleep. Sleeping is something that you will start to enjoy again.

Popularity of Surfing

Surfs Up

The popularity of surfing starting growing in the1960's when movies like “Gidget” and “Beach Blanket Bingo” exposed the rest of the world to a sport only known to ‘locals’ who were lucky enough to live near the beach.

Surfing is popular largely because it requires no formal training, a minimum of equipment and can be enjoyed by almost anyone at any age. All you need is a surfboard, some swimming ability and a nearby beach.

What started out as ‘The Sport of Kings” and was practiced mostly by men has exploded to include women and young girls in increasing numbers. While in the 1960’s through the 1980’s it was unusual to see women in the water you can go to the beach now and see sometimes up to half of the people in the water are female.

While many men enjoy seeing women out in the lineup there are still some who refuse to share the waves with their female counterparts.

There are even surf clothing and surfboard manufacturers who cater specifically to women. Just look at Roxy Clothing and Trixie Surfboards.

Today there are many surfing accessories in use that were not available to surfers of the 1960's such as wetsuits, leashes and rash guards.

Before the advent of wetsuits to keep them warm, many a surfer braved the frigid ocean water, especially in winter, in his bare skin. Now surfers can surf year-round, as well as in places with freezing cold water, and keep warm.

Made of neoprene rubber, a wetsuit fits tightly against the surfer’s skin. It traps a layer of water, which the body warms, then holds it against the skin, keeping the warm water inside of the suit.

More recently neoprene hoods, gloves and booties are used to cover and warm all the extremities as well.

The leash was another welcome addition to the surfing world. Basically a rubber cord that attaches from the fin area of the surfboard to the ankle, a leash keeps a surfer’s board in arm’s reach even after a wipeout so he can quickly retrieve his board without a long swim to shore.

Rash guard shirts were yet another great addition to a surfer’s arsenal. Made from a special lycra material, rash guards are made to be worn in the water and dry very quick. They are light and form fitting for comfort so they don’t get in the way of a surfer’s performance.

Rash guards protect the surfer's body against irritating skin rashes they can get from laying on their surfboard as they paddle or rashes that can occur under their armpits when they wear a wetsuit.

Not only do they protect from skin rashes but they also offer the best UV protection you can get in the water with many providing SPF 150 protection. With the advent of rash guard shirts, surfers could say goodbye to slippery sunscreens that wash off in the water.

These few accessories have made a world of difference to surfers everywhere and made the sport of surfing more accessible and popular to the masses.

You can learn more about rash guards and see them in different styles and colors for men, women and kids at http://www.Buy-Rash-Guards.com

A Prison in Paradise

In the middle of San Francisco bay, framed by some of the most beautiful and majestic views in the country lies Alcatraz Island. A federal penitentiary is not usually included on the list of one’s vacation plans, however the history and beauty of this island warrant an exception. From 1934 to 1963 a number of the most feared criminals in the American penal system called “the rock” home. Famous for the stark contrast between its stunningly serene surroundings and the harshness of life and character inside its walls, Alcatraz has found its way into American lore.

Originally named “Isla de los Alcatraces”, or “Island of the Pelicans” it was later changed and shortened to Alcatraz. Today looking out from the island visitors see a picturesque view from the Golden Gate Bridge, and downtown San Francisco, to the Bay Bridge, and Treasure Island. One can for a moment imagine this location as the setting of a luxurious resort. Turning from the views outside the island to its interior contents however, quickly brings back the notion that this island was the scene of a less comfortable history.

Most famous for its role as a prison, Alcatraz was initially a military base. When gold was discovered in California in 1848 San Francisco’s population jumped from 300 to 30,000 in a matter of years. With this new influx of population and wealth there was a need for the United States government to protect the area from other nations. In 1850 when California became a state, a triangle of fortifications was planned to protect San Francisco Bay. Upon its completion in 1853 Fortress Alcatraz took on the lead role as the most powerful coastal defense on the western coast. The landscape of the island was incorporated into the design, and high walls were built on the rocky isle, leaving the dock as the only access to the fort.

Alcatraz was never called upon to defend the bay, however a number of small incidents during the Civil War brought the island into the spot light. As its use as a defensive fortress lessoned, the island began to take on a new role, that of military prison. Eleven enlisted men were incarcerated in the guardhouse basement in 1859, and slowly deserters, thieves, and other military criminals were sent there from the San Franciscan forts. Finally in 1861 Alcatraz was named the official prison for the Department of the Pacific. The island served this role until 1933 when the cost of importing supplies led the Army to leave, sending prisoners to Kansas and New Jersey.

At this point crime in America had become an increasing problem, fed largely by the troubles associated with prohibition. A new prison was sought that could take the worst of the country’s criminals, and seclude them from the public. While land in Alaska was originally considered, the Army’s recent departure from Alcatraz cemented the island as the choice for America’s new “super-prison”. The facility was to take in the most troublesome of inmates from other prisons around the nation.

In 1934, Al Capone, perhaps the penitentiary’s most infamous prisoner, arrived as one of the first official transfers. His arrival generated enormous interest, and sparked more headlines then the opening of the prison itself. Previously while imprisoned in Atlanta, Capone had been able to achieve a lifestyle within the jail that was unheard of for other prisoners. A carpeted cell and a radio were among the niceties he was able to procure through bribes and other methods. He was even able to continue to manage his organization through relatives who established themselves in a nearby hotel. For this reason he was put on a secure prison railroad car without notice, and shipped to Alcaztraz in the hopes that the lack of outside contact would be the government’s answer to the Capone problem. On the rock Capone was never able to manipulate the warden or guards, and was confined to menial duties along with the rest of the prison population. Staying only 4 ½ years due to health complications Capone left for FCI Terminal Island in 1939.

Despite J. Edgar Hoover’s displeasure with the idea, rising costs and a new federal prison in Illinois brought about the closing of Alcatraz in 1963. Capone, along with other famous inmates such as George “Machine Gun” Kelly, Alvin Karpis, and Robert Franklin Stroud (the birdman of Alcatraz), ensured that the prison would live in American minds for years to come. Today the island is run by the National Parks Service, which offers daily tours of the former prison. Visitors can marvel at the wildlife, gardens, and fantastic views from the high cliffs before entering the cell house where they can be locked within one of the solitary confinement cells. There in the cold pitch black room they can experience for just a brief moment what life must have been like at the prison in paradise.
